How do you become elligible for this award? I tried looking at the website, but it wasn't very helpful. I'm wondering what I could do in high school to be a more competitive student for this award.

Thanks!

During Junior year at my school the students with the top ten gpa's in terms of math and science were asked to write an essay. A group of teachers at our school read the essays and chose one student to receive this award, which was presented at the end of the year. The award doesn't include the scholarship, that I think comes later, not really sure. Anyways, this is how it's done at my school at least.

I got it at my school by giving the guidance office a resume, transcript, and PSAT scores. I'm not totally sure how it works though, but for some reason I think it's only a nomination thta I got, and I have to apply and they admissions committee has to review my application before I get considered for a scholarship...

D received Kodak Young Leaders award this year and I was told that
along with Bausch Lomb award are given through URochester. Each HS determines recipients by whatever criteria they choose. At our HS the highest science avg doesn't necessarily receive Bausch & Lomb award.
Sci teachers/gcounselors may nominate and usually goes to student
who is very involved in research or who takes multiple sciences with excellent grades. I'm told that the award itself simply puts a student in a pool to be eligible for financial awards if admitted at URochester (only, not applicable anywhere else) which partnered with Kodak and B&L both located in Rochester. Thus if a student at our HS has interest in UR guidance dept. would consider them first. GC says it is clever way
to receive info on talented soph/jrs for mailing lists, as there is no real
criteria given to the high schools for selection. Seems it would be
good award to get if there is interest in URochester though as the
financial awards are around 6-8,000?

A teacher will nominate you... you can always suggest it to them if they haven't heard much about it.
