I'm sitting here reading Rock Hard Apps by Katherine Cohen. Has anyone read it and found it useful?

my friend credits that book for getting him into Georgetown, Rice, and McCombs UT...

^^but didn't get into HYSPM? Wow, must not be very good if it only got into those schools

well he was waitlisted at Harvard...and this was for transfer admissions, which is just as hard if not harder.

I have it, I read it, and I found it useful.

It isn't going to like miraculously going to get you into the top schools, but it does teach you how to upgrade and polish your application in order to look the best.

Wow, some people are so incredibly naive.

yeah as if there's a huge difference between an undergrad education from rice/georgetown or harvard/yale...it's a pretty huge accomplishment. maybe he'll change his mind when he applies to some top 30 schools and gets rejected ;)

Remember, going to HYSPM isn't always good.
The more prestigious the school is, the harder it is to survive in the competition, since basically all of the top students go there.

Even if someone offered me a Wharton position, I wouldn't go there. I'd rather choose USC. Not to look down on USC or anything, but I know that Wharton, as of this moment, is beyond my ability and know for sure that I will struggle through the class due to all the maddening competition among the brightest students there.

USC would be also hard, but i kow for sure that the competition is not as harsh as Wharton, and i know that at least I wouldn't struggle through it.

were there any good tips in the book that was especially helpful? How does it exactly help boost a college application.

It gives you various backgrounds of people, and from what they wrote, how they fixed and altered what they had to make it more appealing.

I'm going to assume this was a joke.
Anyway, I was looking at this book and I think I'm going to get it.

I also got The Truth About Getting In. It looks useful.

I got Rock Hard Apps, too. I think it really helped me with my resume, which I'm going to distribute among the teachers and other adults who I'm going to ask for recs. I used their format (as shown in the resume chapter :P), and it's a LOT better than what I had originally down. Much more cleaner, concise, and organized. I think it's worth checking out.

It also gave me some hope for the application process-- these kids' stories are quite interesting, especially the girl's. Proves you definately do NOT have to be the perfect student to get into a top-notch school (although it's been said so many times over and over again, it's good to see some concrete proof). I was definately a lot less apprehensive about the coming year after I read it.
