<p>Both of these schools have art programs. URI offers a BA or BFA in studio art. Does anyone know anything about these programs? Which one might be better? My D wants a university close by (we are in MA), and her GPA is around B- (a senior). The grades are on the upswing but had a bad start early in high school.</p>

<p>I'd love to hear from anyone who has looked at these programs.</p>

<p>Also Salve Regina in Newport RI. I've heard that SR is not great socially, which is a shame, it seems like it could be a nice small nurturing place.</p>

<p>I lived in Newport for a year back in the mid-90s and we loved it. We just checked out the campus of SR last year before our D ended up choosing Northeastern. It looked like the students were happy and getting along fine, and the campus is right among the mansions on the water, but my knowledge doesn’t go much deeper than that. I do know that there is a wonderful art community in Newport itself; which may make an art major more attractive. I recommend you drive down there and check it out for yourself.</p>
