If one is really determined to attend the academy over any university, is it in the best interest to apply early for rolling admissions WITHOUT applying ED for any other college? If I applied to my other university under ED, and if I was accepted, I would have to attend that university, and my chances to attend the academy are virtually gone since I would have to accept ED, correct? If one didn't uphold ED if they were accepted, their chances to all other schools are rescinded from what I heard.. my question is also.. how do they do this. I don't think they can send messages to a million schools telling them this. Any thoughts?

Only apply ED if that is your 1st choice, finances are not an issue and you will gladly attend without thinking about any other schools. If that is not the case, then apply Regular Admissions. If your first choice is a service academy, and you know that you may not find out until April, you cannot apply ED to any other schools. If you are accepted, you must accept the offer. It would be highly unethical to apply ED and then try to weasel out of your part of the commitment.

I see. Thanks momoftwins. I guess I'm not going to be doing any ED this year after all.

I hope to never have ED.

But there are treatments available for that.

If a service academy gives you an appointment early, say in November, can you wait until you receive regular admission notices from civilian colleges, or must you answer within a certain time i.e. a month, after which the appointment is voided?

When you receive your appointment you will have until May 1st to accept or decline.
