Rommate/Housing Info

I've written it many times before, but I had a real good time in WVF so I don't mind writing it again.

My Room:

You walk in and to your immediate left is a counter with a dishwasher, a sink, an oven/stove. To your right is a pantry with shelves. A few steps in more and there is an island. To the left of the island is a full refrigerator. If you keep walking straight, you walk into room A. If you go to the left, there is a living room with 2 coffee tables, a couch and 2 single person couches. THere is also a table with 4 chairs. Down the hall to the right (still in the apartment) are rooms B and C (on the left and straight ahead). On the right is an inlet with 2 sinks and a huge mirror. Off of this area there is a toilet/shower to the left and a toilet/shower to the right.

So main points:
*Full kitchen with dishwasher, oven/stove, sink, garbage disposal, tons of counter space, and a full refrigerator.
*Living room with 2 coffee tables, a "dining table" with 4 chairs, and 3 couches that can hold a total of 4 or 5 people.
*3 Bedrooms where even the smallest bedroom is still larger than any other freshman double.
*2 bathrooms, each with a sink, toilet, and shower/bathtub.

If you got a room on the 4th or 6th floor, you MAY have gotten a duplex. This has the kitchen on the first floor, a full bathroom (toilet, sink, shower) on the first floor, and one bedroom on the first floor. There is also a HUGE living room area with, as the name implies, lots of ceiling space as the room is 2 floors. To the right is a staircase that leads to the second floor which has another full bathroom and 2 more bedrooms.

Some suites are only 4 person suites. These only have one bathroom, but still have all of the other features. Most of the rooms are different. Actually, I think every room on a floor is different, but the room above and below your room is the same as yours (if that makes sense). So while a corner room only has 4 people and one bathroom, it has a large living room which is surrounded by windows. A middle four person room that feels a little crammed in the hallway actually has a very large living room.

Based on my experiences, the duplexes are the best rooms on the whole campus. In WVF, the next best rooms are those that end in X14 or X16. They have the perfect balance of people/size/windows. The X16s are a little better because they have a view of the WVF quad while the X14's face Willis.

hey, redsox2007... i've got a question for you. :)

my sheet says our wvf apartment has a 7 person capacity-- suites A-D, with A being an "RA room." it also lists that it is an "enhanced double." do you know anything about that type of set up?

My son got placed in Kennedy in an 'economy double'; meaning they're putting 2 in a single. No mention of it being part of a suite, though. Aren't ALL the rooms in Kennedy part of a suite?

What colleges are all of you in that have alrady gotten their housing? We live in southern NH and we haven't heard anything yet, just wondering if they send out notifications by the different schools within NEU.

WVF... Its like... freshmen dorm heaven...

Hey Optisrule, Ill be in Stestson West too. Have you heard anything about it? I figure its one of the usual freshman dorms, but just wondering.

Chelsea,
If your room is on the 7th floor, you will be the lucky person to live with the Residence Director. WVF has a full time residence director meaning that he/she has no other job, he/she is not a grad student, etc. They are the one that students go to when they have questions or when people get in trouble. If you have any alcohol violations, before you go to the disciplinary board, you have a meeting with the RD.

If you aren't on the 7th floor, then you will be living with an RA who is an undergrad student who lives in the building. But the fact that A is an enhanced double means you might be living with the RD and his/her spouse.

If you like to party, this could be bad news since you share all of your stuff with people employed by the University to enforce the rules. It depends who you live with and how strict they are.

And about WVF being freshman dorm heaven, everybody on campus knows that so when people ask where you live and you say WVF, you get a lot of "You lucky _______ (fill in your choice of curse word)" or "F U." Especially from upper classmen in the honors program who never got to live there (Now Juniors/Seniors).

According to my suitemate, we are in 404. :) But there are only 5 people on our list. The girl in the C room doesn't have anyone else. However, it also says that if the room isn't full, then expect someone else.

Does that mean the sixth person will be an RA?

Oh, and just in case you knew, how much are RAs paid? Is it actually worth it to live with freshmen (although in WVF, maybe so)?

Hey Amir that's exciting, umm I know I'm living on the Engineering Floor, so the people near me will all be in all of my classes and such. I know that the health science majors are also in Stetson West, but besides that I have not heard anything. I'm in room 251, which are you in?

i lived in stetson west. the 1st floor is LAMP (girls and guys). the 2nd is all engineering guys. the 3rd is the rest of the engineering guys and some of the Bouve girls. the 4th is bouve girls and guys. This is only the backside. It was a great place to live freshman year.

jpeter1093, yea, all doubles in Kennedy are suites. There are a few rooms which don't have common rooms, just a large bedroom with bathroom, but those are triples.

Kennedy is a great building, really spacious, you really can't go wrong even in economy doubles and economy triples.

When I said X14, I meant X10.

Although I lived on the 4th floor, I don't remember which room is the RA room.

I am also not sure how much RAs get paid or if at all. I do know, however, that they get free housing (10-12K) and a free 20 meal/week plan.

Hey Optis, ya man ill be on the Bouve floor...room 473. It should be a good time.

Is there a site that shows the floor plans of the various rooms in the dorms?

Emily, thanks for the reply.

To anyone in a suite; does your letter indicate that you're in a suite? Ours only says "Room/Apt. Capacity:" 2. Although it does say "Room Assignment:" KEN-0105-2 (maybe room 2 in a suite?)

I don't think there is a floor plan site for freshman housing. I remember looking last year for hours trying to find out a floor plan for my room. You can try (I don't know if it will work) is under your myNEU, go to self-service, then click "Housing Online" on the bottom of the right pane. I can see all the non-freshman floorplans on mine, so I dont know if you can maybe see just the fresman ones.

But this gives you an idea:

Virtual Tour

The first one (Freshman housing) is stetson.
The second one (upper-class housing) somewhat resembles WVF. That is WVC and is the exact room I'll be living in next year.

Does anyone know anything about the economy triples in White Hall? Daughter just got her room assignment and she isn't happy about that..... she specifically said she wasn't interested in an economy set up.

^This is a huge drama every year over at the NU boards. The reality is that a LOT of freshman are put in economies, and the majority of them end up not minding, or even enjoying it.

Granted, I was in a suite so I had space other than my bedroom, and my roommates were great, but I LOVED living in a triple as a freshman.

I know that economies are a necessity, I just wondered if anyone knew anything specifically about White Hall.

Also, what NU boards are you referring to, I looked back through this thread for the past 2 years and I didn't see much posted regarding housing.
