ok my idea for this essay would be to talk about my room and sorta how its different components reflect my personality...does this sound all right??

Where does the roommate come in?

Yep you are trying to show you’re personality and how you would get along with your roommate. That doesn’t mean you’re 100% happy go lucky but nice and unique.

Stanford sophomore here… I would take this as another essay that you can use to show off more aspects of your personality / experiences… it doesn’t really need to have much to do with your room at all. If you were actually talking to your roommate, would you write your first letter describing your room, or would you talk about who you are directly?

There isn’t one right answer to this of course, but just because the topic is writing to your future roommate, it doesn’t need to be related to your living style.

I would second merovingian’s opinion here: Consider injecting more of your of your personality into the essay, rather than talking about how the room’s components would reflect your personality. You could still certainly talk about the material components, of course, just don’t make that your focus. I personally talked about an artsy hobby that my roommate would certainly often find me doing in the room.

Hi guys,

I’m a Stanford student and was scrolling through these forums. I remember writing this essay. Although I will not show you guys my essay, I’m willing to answer any questions about if you have any! My best advice is to make it as unique as possible.

but feel free to send me questions about topics that are not related to the essays
