roomate form...

Im just about to send off my “roommate information form” and I had a couple of questions:

The questions seem pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if you are supposed to read into any of them (are you prefer a neat living space? do you like to share your belongings?, etc)

I pretty sure I want to be in coed dorm/floor/wing, but is there any benefit to living on a single sex wing?

thanks,

DAL

Refering to your first question, I think it's just a simple yes or no... Yeah, so if you prefer a neat living space, then put Yes and I think the Residential Office will pair you with someone who also prefer a neat living space.

From what I know, single sex wing dorms are close to the Freshmen Quad, where it is one of the most happening places in Kenyon, I think. And those dorms... they only house Freshmen, unlike McBride or Gund I think.

Whereas for coed dorm/floor/wing... you will most likely be allocated to a dorm that has air-condition/ carpeting (McBride). That's the same for wellness too!

The questions almost seemed too straight forward. Lewis & Clark college had an amazing residential form which asked if you were "Neat", "Kind of neat" "on the messier side, but still somewhat neat" "really messy". It just had varying degrees for all of the questions, I really liked it.

Single sex floors are the Freshman Quad.

"From what I know, single sex wing dorms are close to the Freshmen Quad, where it is one of the most happening places in Kenyon, I think. And those dorms... they only house Freshmen, unlike McBride or Gund I think."

Mcbride and Gund, both house freshmen ONLY..Its actually Mather, which has upperclassmen living with the freshmen..And Gund along with Lewis & Norton makes up the freshmen Quad; all three of these dorms have single sex wings.

Yes, the roommate form is so short, it scared me! Don't read into it too much. The one thing that is really important is that you answer HONESTLY. Nothing could be worse than saying you like to go to bed relatively early when you really go to bed at 2 am, and then getting matched with someone who goes to bed at 11. There are a few things to consider about whether to put single-sex, co-ed, or wellness:
Firstly, think about where you want to live. If you know that you want to live in the freshman quad, then put single sex, because there are no co-ed dorms in the quad. If you want to live really close to the dining hall, then you probably want to be in McBride or Mather, in which case you would put co-ed or wellness as your first choice.
Secondly, if you know for sure that you don't want to live in wellness, but you definitely want to live in a co-ed dorm, then put wellness THIRD. There's always the chance that you won't get your first choice, and don't put wellness 2nd just because you want to live in co-ed.
Lastly, no matter where you are, you're going to have a good time. There will be good and bad things about all the dorms...
