do they tell you who your roommate is ahead of time so you can meet them a summer orientation and stuff?

Yes, I found out who my roommate (and suitemates) was before orientation (and I went to the first orientation). However, there are so many orientations (like 3 for each college, so 3 for Arts & Sciences, Engineering, Business, etc.) that you probs won’t meet at orientation. However, one of my suitemates was actually in my orientation group at orientation (same college, same first letter of last name, and same orientation, so it just happened to work out).

awesome! thanks!

is this a random roommate they give you? i know a bunch of people choose their college roommates on facebook and stuff now…and i don’t like that. is that common at neu or is it usually assigned to you?

^You can choose, but you must mutually request each other. But I have heard that most roommate conflicts come from people who chose each other. If you don’t choose somebody, you fill out a roommate preference sheet, but the answers on there don’t really make a huge difference (as far as I can tell). My roommate and I didn’t request each other, but we’ve gotten along great and are rooming together again next year. (However, this is of course not always the case.)

I don’t think you can choose at all as a freshman, but even if you can, I wouldn’t. Easiest way to ruin a friendship is by living together.

^I’m relatively certain that we could choose who we lived with this (freshman) year. I remember tons of Facebook threads about it, and I’m pretty sure there was a space to request somebody on the form.

you can definitely choose, its on the housing form.

Seriously? That’s so weird. I wonder why they let people. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t… but then again, I wouldn’t have even checked (because I didn’t know anyone else going there). What do you mean, facebook threads? Did people create groups to find roommates or something?

yeah on facebook people have all these surveys and they’re like ADD ME and they talk to people so they can find a roommate. i don’t like it though, so i’m hoping some cool people DON’T do it. since i just want to get assigned someone probably.

Sorry, would anyone here happen to know exactly when we get notified about our rooming/roommate? Thanks!

I agree with Belle. I’d like to just have a roomate assigned to me. I don’t wanna be all gay and search for a roomate online. Lets have it old skool style.

You find out who your roommate(s) is (are) before orientation, but not sure of what time range. You find out what day you move in a bit later in the summer though.

you dont get the welcome week thing unless you are honors tho right?

Honors students move in like 6 days before classes and everyone else moves in like 3 days before classes, I believe. So you still do the Welcome Week activities, just not the honors ones.

when do they post orientation dates?

I think the website mentioned the dates should be posted by mid to late April. Obviously because booking a summer vacation we are hoping to hear as soon as possible.
