Rose Hill off campus neighborhood safety?

Out of towner who will be touring Rose Hill campus next week. Coming in via train to midtown the evening before and considering seeing an evening Broadway show, then taking the train up to Fordham station that night for the next day’s tour. I’m guessing it would be a 15 - 20 minute walk from the station to the Rodeway Inn where we are staying. Is the neighborhood okay to walk in from the train station to the Rodeway at 11 at night? We’ll have no car and I’m wondering if we need to skip the PM show and check into the hotel before dark for safety reasons.

In NYC like all large cities you need to keep aware of you location and actions and you will be fine.
We have visited Fordham University and stayed in Midtown and in Bronx hotels and we always felt safe. My wife and I walked from Fordham to the D train station on E. Fordham Rd/Grand Concourse at 10:30PM to go back to the Sheraton Times Square. No issues. We also stayed at the Residence Inn in the Bronx several times and used Uber to and from the hotel and University.
If you are staying at the Roadway Inn at “Bronx Zoo” you are ~ 10 minute walk from the D train stop at 205 Street Station to the Hotel (~1/2 mile). You can always hire an Uber from the subway stop to your hotel.
If you have the opportunity to see a Broadway play DO IT. Uber is not to expensive if you feel unsafe.

Just a note when my daughter and her friends go a plays in theater district and are returning to the Fordham via the “D” train they always catch the Fordham University Public Safety Van which is staged at the Grand Concourse Subway station during late hours.

I am not familiar with that hotel, but another option would be to stay over in Manhattan after the show and go up to Rose Hill in the morning.

I concur with @happy1, try to stay in Midtown and hop on Metro North the next morning. Or----just Uber it from your show to the hotel.

I do not live there but have visited Fordham and walked in that area. I live in another city with its own crime problems that don’t stop me from doing the things I want to do. That said, when you are in unfamiliar territory, later in the evening, you are just naturally going to feel uncomfortable. For your own peace of mind and from an out of towner’s perspective, I would Uber it. I know my wife would make me Uber it anyway.

Uber is another way to do it. But if you stay in a hotel in midtown you can check into the hotel and drop off your luggage when you arrive in NYC-- this was you can walk around Manhattan and go to the show unencumbered.

I wouldn’t do the walk alone. Chances are you will be fine, but it’s better to be safe than sorry, and you should definitely have at least one other person with you. If you feel unsafe, I would take an uber.
