I’m a high school senior and my friend and I (+ families) are taking a college trip this week. Fordham at Rose Hill is my top choice school right now but when I went to sign up for a tour there were only self-guided ones available for Friday. Although that’s better than nothing, I would still love it if we got the chance to be led around and given some info (+ see dorms if possible). We would really prefer a girl if possible. We were thinking morning around 9:30 and just max 2 hrs or so but we can talk. If it helps I’m interested in Journalism and Anthropology but also any type of writing major but I also do a ton of theater. My friend is interested in English. Message me or reply please!
Not many current students post here but good luck.
Rose Hill Society runs most the tours. Students in classes on Friday mornings so that is why they told you its self guided. However, if you show up, go to McGinley Center and ask students to show you around or if they know any student guides from Rose Hill Society, they might help you out. Or go to Admissions Office and see if they have someone who can take you around. Its a gorgeous campus. Where are you from? Driving? Flying in? Need directions? Its homecoming weekend and a football game is on Saturday versus Columbia, so you know as well.
Thanks for the reply-I’m from Houston and we’re flying in but we’re good for directions. Is there anything in particular you suggest we really should take a look at while we’re there?
Okay…we are southerners too. LOL> My kid graduated in 2011. We are Fordham fanatics.
Fly into LaGuardia. IF you are staying in Manhattan midtown, I like the Hyatt Grand Central the best. Its not cheap but its awesome and very convenient. Grand Central Station is below it.
When going to Fordham Rose Hill from there, take the Metro North Train. NOT the D train subway. Metro North drops you directly at gates of Fordham. under 8.00 and about 20 minutes. Safe, clean and has a conductor. Fordham students use metro north.
Fordham’s campus is gorgeous. Its iconic. its gothic. 90 acres of trees, green lawns, dorms, classrooms, library and footbal stadium and basketball arena…the food in Little Italy off campus is to die for and cheap…eclectic…but dont be afraid…authentic italian. Awesome stuff.
outside Fordham’s gates are the New York Botanical Gardens. And the Bronx Zoo. Dont visit them this trip. Buthey are there for students to enjoy and many do.
In manhattan, depending on your schedule you can visit the 9-11 memorial…but that is WAAAY DOWNTOWN…tip of Manhattan overlooking the bay and the ocean. Plan accordingly. or mid town visit New York Public Library which is awesome. Beautiful. St. Patricks Cathedral which is beautiful and 5th Avenue shopping. Broadway shows available but expensive. Plan ahead. Lincoln Center campus is at…Lincoln Center, next to Central Park, Julliard School and Lincoln Center for Performing Arts-NY Philharmonic. Law school is there. FCLC is there. Drama school. etc. Attractive, but urban. Much smaller than Rose Hill.
At Rose Hill, visit the Library. McGinley. Rose Hill Gym. Lombardi Center (pool and squash courts), Queens Court Dorm. Loyola Hall Dorm. Keating Hall. Dealy Hall. Reach out and talk to students. WE DID. So glad we did. Got the lo down on life. Fordham kids are good kids. Smart as whips. Competitive but not cut throat. Most of them from Long Island or New Jersey or upstate or another state…so they are new to the Bronx as well. The Bronx is eclectic. Be not afraid. Just respect it and be smart. We love the place.
Going to Fordham for us was a HUGE culture shock and a lot of fear and anxiety. Dorm drama didnt help. But it does get better and kids grow up and learn to live together in harmony.
Its an AWESOME school. Fabulous programs. Fabulous internships. Good professors who CARE.
Sorry but I am not on campus anymore.
I would suggest you call admissions (if you called once, I’d try again), let them know you are coming in from Houston and won’t be able to visit another time, mention that Fordham is a top choice of yours, and ask if there is any possible way you can get a guided tour or even speak with a current student for a while. Might be long odds, but seems worth a try.
any follow up to the visit?
