Ross Freshman Experience

Hello,

I’m a Ross pre-admit, and recently received an email asking if I wanted to forego my LSA acceptance for freshman year and join Ross immediately rather than join as a sophomore (and fulfill all the freshman Ross requirements), which I believe is standard for pre-admits as it is a 3 year program. Did anyone else receive this email, and what exactly does this entail? Do you take any more business classes as a freshman than you would in the standard program? Are you guaranteed housing on central campus near Ross? I can attach the email if anyone is confused by what I’m saying.

Thanks!

This was posted in Ross’ Undergraduate Admission Facebook Group and should answer your questions.

I wonder if Ross just thinks this a greater commitment to Ross for the student and they will be less inclined to not pursue Ross after their Freshman year.

So there is no benefit. is ross tuition the same as LSA?

It’s 400 dollars more, seems like a waste lol

Why would Ross offer this? I’m confused.

I just read the link, and it makes absolutely no sense. What’s the advantage? Was there more detail in the body of the email? Is it just an administrative thing, where you’re “in” Ross instead of “in” LSA?

Under the new system, you only take 2 Ross classes freshman year BA 100 and BCOM 250, but i guess that’s still better than 0 before.

It might just be a money thing lol. Pledge your money to Ross your freshman year instead of LSA. Isn’t that part of the whole reason they switched systems anyways? More money for the B-school? Maybe I’m just being cynical

Maybe increased access to Ross career services or ability to take more Ross coursework?

I’m interested in seeing how this plays out.

These FAQs may help some.

Its more like alleviating the "uncertainty " of not being in Ross. Before the main pathway was applying freshman year, now they will accept more students in high school. Before, it was a much bigger risk for out-of-state students who didn’t get in from high-school but hoping for to get in as a freshman.

I’ll give you an example scenario. Let’s say an out-of-state student gets into USC Marshall and only Michigan LSA but not Ross-preadmit. The most ideal situation is Ross. Even if students at LSA Econ will have equally successful careers as those USC Marshall, some students will prefer to actually study accounting, finance, biz admin, marketing, and strategy rather than cumberson Economic theory. Do you gamble on yourself on Ross where you could get your 1st but potentially 3rd preferred outcome or play it safe with your 2nd choice at USC Marshall?

High school admission as the main pathway will cut out this gamble and uncertainty.
