@yorkie97 What would a strong essay on Why Ross be about? Just curious.
@brantly My essay (I was accepted this Friday) was largely about how important business is to me and how an education at Ross would allow me to accomplish my stated goals. I also often mentioned specific programs and statistics within Ross and how they were a good fit for me.
@brantly I wrote about how my personal life and experiences in volunteering in Detroit have motivated me to pursue a goal of ultimately working in non-profits and outreach in Detroit, and it was well-researched and referenced the multi-faceted education available at Ross as well as alumni who have left a positive social impact after graduation
Thanks, @yorkie97 . Sounds interesting.
There’s an event for NY preadmits tonight. I take it that means most acceptances have been sent out? They wouldn’t hold an event for upcoming Ross preadmits unless they mostly have been sent out.
@UMichigan2016 I would hope and expect not because most of the RD applicant decisions aren’t out yet - especially since you need to be admitted to the university first before you’re even considered for Ross.
acceptances for Pre-Admits is done on a rolling basis by area. It’s quite likely UMichigan2016’s area has had their applications checked. Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten a response yet, they class size Ross admissions is aiming for this year is 250, a huge increase from last year. You have Stephen M Ross to thank for that as it’s his funding for the new buildings that have warranted this class size growth.
@Wolverine19 Where did you learn about the increased PA class size to 250?
That is not what Ross admissions told us. They said they will PA about 400, with a 130 yield. The rest will be regular admit.
Do they only go up every other friday
These numbers are from last year:
Number of Applicants: 2,480
Number Admitted: 389
Number Attending: 181

If they PA 400 this year, it is not a significant expansion. Also, they expect a lower yield for this year (130 vs. 181)
Interesting…I would imagine their expectations are fluid
Does 2,480 represent the total number of people applying to Ross PA or just accepted students who applied to Ross PA? I’m guessing that they count all applicants who applied to Ross PA (including students who never were accepted to UM) but that’s just a guess.
@Canoon What is your source of information for an expected yield of 130 students this year and why such a drop off from prior numbers.
I don’t think there is any way the number of pre admits will be as low as 130 this year. I think you are thinking back several years ago when that was the normal number of pre admits. They will likely have similar number to last year (181 attending) or probably even higher this year. Ross has published the numbers of pre admits every year and the trend is an increase in the numbers of pre admits. Here are the year and number of pre admits: 2015 - 181 pre admits attending ; 2014 - 133 pre admits attending; 2013 - 130 pre admits attending; 2012 - 89 pre admits attending; 2011 - 101 pre admits attending.
@Shade45 I’m a current Pre-Admit. @HRSMom , I’m sure your figures were right when they told them to you at campus day, however, I’m guessing that’s changed. Our head business advisor specifically told us during our monthly Pre-Admit meeting last Sunday (3/20) that they were changing a few things in the PA class for the next year in light of the increased class size.
- target PA class size is 250, up from the 178 in my year
- the monthly PA meetings will be replaced with a biweekly Wednesday class for PAs (sorry guys lol)
One of my friends told me this is because they are planning to transition to a 4 year business curriculum, but I don’t know that for sure. I was only explicitly told the two points above.
@Shade45, the number of 130 comes from #88 in this thread. @Wolverine19, however, has provided Ross’ revised expectation for this year (250) which makes more sense.
@Ljtjrose, You raised an interesting question. According to the process, applicants rejected by UM won’t pass to Ross.
Yes, Canoon, but I would bet that they are including in their numbers applicants who applied to Ross PA but didn’t get into UM (and therefore didn’t get into Ross PA). Anyway, unless we get some clarification from UM, this may be one of those issues that remains a bit murky.
The acceptance rate is based on students already accepted to Michigan who applied to pre admit
