hey guys --

i was accepted to Harvard EA, and i also found out that i got an NROTC-Marine Corps scholarship, applicable towards Harvard tuition. (the ROTC unit is based at MIT and includes students from MIT, Tufts, and Harvard). is anyone else considering ROTC? i know it's not too big but if anyone else is planning on doing it, i just wanted to know! right now i'm deciding between Harvard/ROTC or the Naval Academy....

shawna :-)

You will not be seeing me there. :)

Is Navy rolling? I have a friend who hasn't heard from them yet, but he was accepted into West Point back in October.

technically, the service academies are "rolling", so i wasn't violating any rules by applying to both. i got my "letter of assurance" in September, and got my official Appointment last week after i passed my medical and got a nomination (i ended up with a presidential one as opposed to one from a senator/congressman, so i got processed a little earlier than a lot of people who are in line for Appointments). the fact that your friend got into WP is a good sign; once he gets his nomination he could see a USNA acceptance.

anyone else for ROTC...? :-)

Yeah, I would be very surprised if he didn't get in. It's his first choice, though, so waiting sucks.

I can't... gay. Though, I'm in JROTC now, lol.

How do you manage that, anyway? I saw you mention you were JROTC on another thread, and I've been wondering how that works. lol

I like the fact that the only people who responded to this question were gay kids who aren't even allowed to join. Haha.

Yeah, since it's funded by local and state funds, they can't ban anyone.

Interesting. Is it not officially affiliated, then? I thought DADT was a federal law concerning the military. I knew a kid from a military high school, and they told him he would be expelled if he tried to start a GSA. I don't know if it was JROTC or just a military style environment at a normal private school. Sorry, I don't really know what I'm talking about. lol

LOL. Private is totally different. Private schools can do W T F they want since they are self-funded.

oh, that's interesting about JROTC. i didn't know that.

Yeah, thanks for the catch up course!

LOL. No problem. Yeah, I was a bit confused at first until it was explained to me.

so, anyone out there not doing ROTC who will be doing some other type of Officer program, like PLC, OCS....? anyone future military?

seems like i might be a pretty lonely girl on campus...

-shawna :-)

really? no one else at ALL? awwwww......

Congrats on Harvard EA and NROTC scholarship!!!!! I got the MIT NROTC scholarship too. I was also planning on going to USNA originally, but I decided to go ROTC.

Are you definitely going to MIT now? Navy or Marine option? Where are you from?

I'm still deciding on Harvard vs. USNA...haha I might have to flip a coin on April 30th!

My AIM sn is SLsinnott. Semper fi!
