This fall i'm gonna be doing ARMY ROTC at Notre Dame. How is ROTC viewed by other students there? For anyone who is in ROTC at ND how are you getting on?

As a non-ROTC student, I really admire and respect all my friends who’ve chosen that path. ROTC is very well-known and well-regarded on campus; the various branches, separately or together, organize quite a few fundraisers and other events, like blood drives. Just search the school newspaper for a sampling: ["Observer search results](<a href=“http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/search-box-1.20069?q=ROTC]"Observer”>http://www.ndsmcobserver.com/search-box-1.20069?q=ROTC)

As a more personal perspective, there are a bunch of ROTC freshmen in my dorm (from all the different branches), so they hang out together a lot, but they also all have many friends from the rest of the dorm. Overall I’d say ROTC members are very close with one another, but definitely not isolated from the rest of the dorm.

Good luck at ND and in the Army!

ROTC is fine here, you see them all over campus every day. I know some kids in it and they are getting along fine, honestly its not really an issue once you get oriented at ND.

I’m a second semester senior and am about to commission as a Marine officer through ROTC in May. ROTC, in all honesty, is the opposite of a detriment to your experience here. I feel that ROTC has really enhanced my education and given me a unique perspective and outlook that many of my peers and professors are genuinely interested in hearing about. We get a lot of respect on campus (aside from occasional protesters who are almost always from outside the student body) and, looking back, I wouldn’t have done it any other way.
