Our son is having difficulty getting his senior recommendation letter from his High school Guidance Counselor for the Naval Academy. He's in a large school and GC have changed since his freshman year, what should we do?

First, he should try making an appointment and explaining what he needs. If he is not getting results, I think its time for a parent to step in. I would email the GC and cc the principal, asking for an appointment and outlining the deadlines for a USNA application. I am sure the GC is overwhelmed, but every time I’ve brought something forward and made it clear what I am asking for, they usually are able to deliver.
Good luck with the bureaucracy!

Thank you for your reply. He has made several appts and waited patiently as the GC has instructed. Our student has provided him with all the necessary documentation for the recommendation, this morning he was to help him get online and finish with his information. I have met with him once and he gave his word to take care of the recommendation and each time nothing. I will be there today, with yet another appt to see him.

Have you talked to his Blue and Gold Officer? If he has a good relationship with his BGO, perhaps a call or e-mail from “the Captain” explaining the importance and urgency might carry some weight. In any case, the BGO is there to advise your son through this process and might have some suggestions for this or any other obstacle he encounters. Good luck.

Edit: Also, you might want to post questions like this on the Service Academy Parents forum. They’re a really helpful bunch, too, if you haven’t already discovered them.
