RPI engineering town hall

Searching for a particular program at RPI I stumbled across this town hall doc from the Dean of Engineering. Looks like a goal to decrease undergrad headcount in engineering. Interested in comments........

It appears to be driven by rankings. With fewer students they reduce student/faculty ratios and possibly increase the selectivity. It also looks like they de-emphasized the Masters programs in favor of Ph.D.

Somewhere I saw a ranking of schools based on number of students who go on to PhD’s and RPI was on that list while some Big 10 schools were not even on that list. I know that has something to do with size of school but still great to see RPI on that list.

The Master’s program is more important for developing professional engineers. The Ph.D. program is more important for improving school rank.
