RPI or Macaulay Honors College at CCNY for Physics?

I have been accepted into both schools and have been given enough money from RPI to make it comparable to MHC. At the moment I am planning on majoring in Physics but that could potentially change to engineering or computer science. Both schools seem well equipped academically for Physics and I am sure I will do fine socially at either. I think it is likely I will pursue a career in research but that is not a definite. Is one of these schools better equipped for research? Also, which school would it be more graceful for me to switch over to engineering or computer science if I choose to do so? Lastly, what are your overall impressions of these schools in contrast to one another?

Go for the location that you like better. However, to answer your question, I would assume that RPI is much better equipped in terms of research.

RPI, especially if you might switch to engineering or CS – excellent research and job opportunities.

RPI is much stronger, but the key question is:
what’s your parents’ budget and what’s your net cost* at each?

*net cost = (tuition+fees+room+board) - (scholarships+grants)

I appreciate the feedback. I should also note that I am an hour train ride away from CCNY but about a four hour train ride from RPI or a three hour road trip. Cost-wise they are within a few thousand dollars of each other so that is not factoring too much into my decision.

I am also concerned with RPI’s academic situation. From what I can tell it is very academic-centric. I have always been a good student but have never made it the focal point of my life. I need auxiliary activities and being in the city would provide me with them in abundance. Can I find those same activities/people/experiences at RPI?
