For prospective students, I feel this delivers a great sense of what’s going on at RPI. Please take the time to read this if you are interested since I wish I could have seen this when I was an applicant.
@joedoe “I wish I could have seen this when I was an applicant”
Not sure what you mean. I read the whole thing and it seems like the same blah-blah that every school puts together. The only real point of interest to me is when they cite their usnews numbers. RPI has always seemed to me to be MIT’s little sister. The Arnold Shwartzeneggers go to MIT, and the deformed Danny Devito twin goes to RPI, I jest lol.
What did you find to be interesting to you from this article?
Where did you end up attending?
@reformedman Research and partnerships are emphasized (kinda important if you’re going to college) and I always find that comparison very childish. The average RPI student isn’t deformed or a ‘reject’ because they couldn’t get into MIT and I wouldn’t say students going to other universities similar to RPI like CWRU, Rice, GTech, CMU, or Lehigh are deformed either… especially considering they all use each other for benchmarking as peer institutions and have very similar grade metrics. Many RPI students also turn down other highly ranked schools to attend. I personally know several that turned down Darthmouth and Brown and I know I turned down many schools as well. RPI is RPI. MIT is MIT. Two very different schools that happen to have great engineering programs.
@reformedman Well I’m glad you’re looking at my responses and lol since they seem more combative than playful - it’s kind of hard to tell from behind a computer screen, sorry if I went off on you.
