stupid question, I didnt read well enough :-P

Check out p.83 of this study. RPI is #3 vs. CMU #4 is sending its students to getting a PhD in engineering. RPI sends more to get PhDs in math and chem too, while CMU has more get PhD in CS.

I chose CMU (ECE) over RPI even though my four years at RPI would have been free and I would have gotten a free laptop.

I have a son who is a football player and interested in Engineering. He has been reaching out to: RPI, Carnegie Mellon, and Tufts.

I wanted to reach out to the group to see if there is any updates on the rankings of these schools since 2006.

The comment above also references getting an offer of a full ride and a free laptop from RPI. How does a person get this kind of offer today?

Thanks for any insight you can give.

I can only speak to RPI and CMU since they recruited my son too. Don’t get bogged down with rankings. They both offer amazing, well respected engineering programs and great % for placement after college. Recruiting for football was top notch too. Very approachable, very communicative and extremely straightforward. Very different school environments. Have you had a chance to visit both?

We’ll be making the trips too. Are both D III for most sports? I know CM is DIII for soccer.

RPI is also Division III

^^Except for hockey, for that sport I believe they are D1. And as a result of that crossover the facilities for their other sports are top notch. We were really impressed.
