I've already paid my deposit for Binghamton, but a few days ago, RPI notified me that I've been accepted off the waitlist. I'm not sure where I'd like to go. RPI is better at engineering, but the male to female ratio is 3:1. I feel like I'd have a better social life at Binghamton. Two of my close friends are going there. I'm paying around the same for both schools. It comes down to social life vs. better school... or am I wrong? How much more would going to RPI over Binghamton do for my future(grad school, career)? I'm not entirely sure I want to do engineering, either. How would you compare these two schools? Thanks.

bump... can anyone give me an opinion?

I would go to Binghamton because it is a general university and has a different atmosphere from a tech school. You are probably also correct that the social life will be better, but RPI is walking distance from Russell Sage, a largely female school. RPI is ranked a little higher, but Binghamton has a good reputation also.

From what I've heard, there is more to do on campus at RPI than at Binghamton. Can anyone confirm/refute this?

Can I assume that you are getting some sort of aid/scholarship from RPI, so that the cost is somewhat equivalent? Binghamton is an excellent academic school and probably would provide a more "normal" social situation because of the M/F ratio. Also, since you're not totally sure about engineering, Binghamton may well give you more opportunity to study a broader range of courses. I have a number of adult friends who are Binghamton graduates and they have prospered in many careers. There are lawyers, nurses, actuaries and teachers in the bunch.
