I am planning on majoring in Engineering. So far I got accepted to: Drexel, CUNY, SUNY Binghamton, and WPI. I am waiting on more schools but I want to know what people think about the ones I got accepted to so far. I ruled Drexel out because of cost and CUNY because it is too close to home. I want to know which is better for engineering, easy transportation to NYC, and being able to change majors easy if I were to change my mind about engineering.

Because you live in NY Binghamton would be a lot cheaper, especially WPI is a private school. Even though I think WPI is a better Engineering school. They are about same distance to NY. However, since WPI is basically famous for its engineering, it would be hard to find another good program in WPI if you decide to change to something else later. It would be better to go to Binghamton if you plan to change major later.

When I came home I checked my mail and found out that I won a $25,000 every year from WPI so I am still kinda undecided. Is it possible to get more than one merit scholarship from WPI?

I was also wait listed at University of Pittsburgh today for their School of Engineering. I was accepted to the School of Arts and Sciences though.

What is the actual cost difference? I’m sure WPI is a better school for engineering than Binghamton, but it probably doesn’t justify paying several times as much.

Binghamton’s COA is a little over $18000. WPI’s COA is $52440. I received a $25000 merit scholarship from them so that goes down to $27440. My EFC is around 23190. I did not receive a financial aid package from neither yet and I do not know if I am going to get a merit scholarship from Binghamton.

I would love to visit all the schools that I am interested in but I know for a fact my parents cannot afford to let me visit every school I get accepted to. That was a mistake on my part since I applied to 17 schools. X.x

If you won 25k from wpi every year, go. Like I said, it has one of the highest returns on investment in the NATION, including the ivies, and that’s for a 50k tuition. now, at 25k a year, your ROI will be monstrous.

If you were to get into RPI then you could leave WPI behind. However, WPI has the 9th highest return of investment in the nation which means, even RPI would be behind WPI in case of ROI. In terms of academics, I would personally suggest to go to RPI if you have been accepted to both the schools.
