Northwestern it is. Thanks for the advice!
I want to just say that you shouldn’t eliminate a school because it’s public, of the five schools listed, UM has the best engineering school, it’s strong in all engineering fields. JHU is good for bio as is Washington, CMU for EECS, RPI for Aero/Nuclear/Mech and ECSE, but UM is strong overall, and in fact the only schools better than it for undergrad engineering are MIT, Stanford and Cal Tech. Maybe Berkeley but that’s a public school as well.
UM is a great school, with a great rep. When we visited though DD thought it was just far too big and somewhat impersonal. For OOS, it’s also almost as expensive as the other options.
You had outstanding options and between Michigan, JHU, MU and RPI, you couldn’t have gone wrong choosing on fit.
It sounds like she did. And – Northwestern is an all-around academic powerhouse. It is better all-around than CMU academically (a wider range of top-notch programs), so if she wanted to change her major, she is almost certainly better off at Northwestern. And – Chicago. Great city.
