UW Madison vs. U Delaware - Biomedical Engineering

Thought I’d throw this out to the wolves and let you all weigh in. Daughter has narrowed it down to these 2 schools. She is having a very hard time deciding between the 2. We are OOS for both.

U Delaware Pros:
Admitted to honors college with a substantial merit scholarship
Direct admit to biomedical engineering program
a chance to skate on their synchronized skating team, something she’s done for 10 years and LOVES
U Delaware Cons:
Distance - she’s super nervous about it. It would be 12 hours away.

Campus - it was fine, but it didn’t wow her and the town of Newark is decidedly meh.
Much smaller biomed program. Seemed good though.

UW Madison Pros:
This has been her dream school/campus since Freshman year. She loves Madison. She was over the moon to be accepted.
It’s way closer to home (about 2 1/2 hours). She’s nervous about distance
Their engineering program is huge and impressive. We were bowled over on the tour.
UW Madison Cons:
Cost - we can do it, but it will be tight. Still crossing fingers that some scholarships hit, but not counting on it.
Must meet very steep first year progression requirements to stay in biomedical engineering. She’s a hard worker and I think she’d make it, but it’s a scary prospect
No synchro team, but there is a rink and she could skate there on a much smaller scale.

I’m just glad I’m not her. I don’t think I could make this decision.

What would she be able to do with the money saved at UDel?

Where do you live that she would have to drive to UDel rather than flying? It might not be 12 hours away.

How did UDel end up on her list in the first place?

What does she think about the difference in weather?

We are in Illinois. She can definitely fly to Philly then shuttle. It’s still scary. UD made her initial list because they had the combo of a great skating team and a biomed program that was ranked as a best value. We weren’t really going to consider it until she got in, got honors, and got merit. We visited last week. I think she’s just scared of it being so far and unknown. And nothing can be worse than the winters we are already used to.
