RPI/ waitlisted

Hi, can we start the whole discussion/updates about the “waitlisted” students???
So, I emailed one of the counselors at RPI and she said your acceptance will depend on the level of interest/the major I applied for. She also said that she’ll add a copy of my email to my file and they’ll take it into consideration.
Does any of you guys got waitlisted for RPI’21?? If yes, please lets keep each other updated on this.
Thanks.

Yeah, I was waitlisted at RPI as well.

stats?

S was waitlisted
Stats 3.8 UW, 4/16 W GPA
SAT 1470 (770 M, 700 Lang)
Many subject tests
Many AP’s
Much EC-mostly music related
Leadership-good 3 years

Sorry meant GPA 3.8 UW, 4.16 W

Wait listed as well. Applied for Computer Science BS with not great SAT 1260, however international studies background (sumer immersion program in Japan), college credit bearing high school courses (3), 3 AP classes, President of the Academy of Information Technology at the high school and completed a computer programming internship. They sent my son a Candidates Choice application. Fingers crossed-- We really loved RPI. Does anyone know their deadline for answers back from accepted students? This is my first born and I am a newbie to this stuff. Thx

1100 on the SAT is average, 1200 is good. 1260 is something to be proud of. Candidate’s choice is something everyone gets that signs up on any website that evaluates college stats and selects rpi in one of its choices. Its a marketing scheme so it really doesnt mean anything. I dont know the answer to your question about waitlist response date but I assume after Apr 15 since they need to see how many available spots are left from those that registered.
My first time in this ordeal also so goodluck.

son has been put on waitlist as well 3.73 UW; 1410 SAT BS in Computer Science. Candidate’s choice application

Hoping we all start hearing good news soon. It’s hard to put a deposit down at a school that is not your top choice. My son called with his counselor and the news wasn’t great- apparently no one got in off the wait list last year. Did anyone hear this?

It’s slightly more possible that there may be some pulled from the waitlist this year since there has been a surge of people opting for the ‘free’ public university offer of 2017. You should know though that typically, with most college waitlists, people that get pulled from the waitlist don’t get much aid if any. You can look at the discussion about it in the lehigh waitlist thread as an example.
If money wont be any issue then I’d recommend definitly telling admissions that you want to pay the enrollment fee. I wouldn’t even ask, I’d just send them the check – you can’t demonstrate comitted interest more than that.

@GoRedhead Most RPI students are from out of state (over 70%) and from what I’m aware they’re rejecting a lot more students from in-state and those that they do admit get much larger packages. International applicants have also grown so that’s another thing. Three of my friends from my high school in NYC have enrolled and they got unusually more generous packages than my counterparts the year before (like over 50k packages) with similar grades and incomes. I got around 47k with roughly their metrics. RPI also had record alumni giving last year so that helps a lot.

In that regard, I doubt they’ll be admitting many students off the waitlist. Even in years that were complete flops and they didn’t enroll enough students the waitlist acceptance rate wasn’t above like 1.5% in order to bring the class to the target size. Those that are admitted off the waitlist though get considerable or good packages most of the time, enough for around 70%-80% to accept.

@Payaso13 My son was told the same thing by admissions.

My son is at RPI, and there are many many students being admitted.

There is no longer a room retention process available for upperclassmen, so my son went off-campus with his friends that he lived with on-campus this year:

That along with the Summer ARCH program has made us upset, to change things after he entered the college.

Also - what major does matter in terms of getting into a college.

Wish my son got a package like that!

hey! did everyone commit to any colleges yet, or still waiting to get a reply from RPI?

Did RPI release some waitlist decisions? It’s over a month since decisions came out so I am a little anxious.

@“HapaD!” I am waiting out RPI but hoping for the best
