Can we start a waitlist thread? I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. I really want to goto RPI and I am putting in an honest and eager effort to the admissions office, but I dont know. Can anyone else tell me about their experience, if they were waitlisted? I really don't want to be left behind if I am accepted to RPI. Will I have the same chance at choosing my classes? I suppose I won't get a shot at dorms. I will probably have to take whatever is open. :/

Out of the 10 people I knew that applied for the class of 2013, I was the only one who got in. However the other 9 were waitlisted and all eventually offered a spot.

Aero:

I contacted admissions on numerous occaisions both by email and phone. In addition I sent my half year grade reports. They said that they noted my strong interest. Should I need to continue emailing them? Can I also ask what time your friends heard back from rpi?

Probably not necessary. Some of my friends talked to admissions once or twice, some of them never did. The offers kind of floated out over time, I don’t remember the exact time table.

From what I heard, they will notify in late april/may. I am still concerned that my sats might weigh me down. CR+MATH is only 1090. I have a lot of extracurriculars, decent essay, and great reccommendations. My GPA is 3.9 UNweighted. And rank at 15/275. I havent contacted admissions for a while.

Hello,

I was also waitlisted at RPI. I called on the 18th and asked when the results would come out. The lady at the office told me that they would begin the process of reviewing applications in a couple of weeks. She ended the phone call by telling me she would include a note on my application. These notes (any calls made by applicants) are gathered for the purpose of providing your sincerity.

One and a half hours after calling, I received a return call from my regional coordinator who said I had been pulled from the wait list. The following day, I was offered an NROTC slot at RPI from that wait list.

So…my point is that, within two days, my small effort gave me a spot at RPI. If I were you, I would call every two or three days (at least twice a week) asking if they have started reviewing yet or if they have any updates for you. I believe that your persistence will go a long way.

A couple of notes:
-I only had an SAT score of 1150 (don’t worry, I hate them too)
-Ranked 9 or so/115
-I was accepted weeks in advance due to persistence. Make yourself marketable.
-RPI admissions works very “closely” and “behind the scenes” with the NROTC program, so my guess is that they work very closely within.

Good Luck!

Thanks for your response and congrats on your successful contact!

I called admissions and they, once again, gave me the runaround. The only thing I learned was that they did not begin viewing my application. What else could I say?

Finally got in!

Called admissions at 9.30 got in at 2.30

Congratulations!!! It looks like your perseverance paid off!

My S is still on the waiting list, but we haven’t called admissions in a long time. Does anyone get merit aid when you’re accepted from the waitlist?
