I haven't taken the SAT, but my PSAT was a 238. I'd prefer not to think it's the only reason I got into RSI, though.

I don't think PSAT is that big of an element at all (seeing as I got rejected with a 240). Neither is independent research experience (County and State Science Fair with honors 4 years). I'd really like to get a look at what they REALLY look for, rather than what they say in the brochure.
Maybe, they give an extra x points to anybody who's won a national competition? Maybe they have regional quotas? Male/Female? When there's only 75ish accepted, PSAT/research experience will definitely mess you up if you don't have them, but will not get you in.

^i h ave a lot of research experience and got rejected. i've had isef, local fairs, siemens regional finalist, working on a patent etc. lots of other awards. my test scores were ok...not the best in the world, but certainly not bad. but... w/e.

I think that CEE looks at your standardized test scores to the extent that they can be sure that you've got a certain level of intelligence (mostly 5's on APs, upper 700s on SAT IIs, 23xx on SAT, 23x on PSAT.. )

i don't believe that CEE has a specific gender ratio to fulfill, although the ratio has become more and more balanced with the years, apparently. i've been accepted this year and i'm a girl, but i wouldn't say that girls have an 'easier' time getting in than guys do. and as for the regional quota thing, people from my state get admitted consistently every year, while some states almost never get anyone admitted. last year only 25 or so states had any rickoids at all. so while there might be a bit of regional favor/bias, i doubt that it's a major factor.

i think that what the CEE certainly does look for is well rounded individuals. while many people are strong in certain areas (sports, arts, academics, leadership, volunteering, etc) few are strong all - around. while RSI is a research camp, and thus academically inclined, the website specifically says that CEE is looking for "leaders of tommorrow" .. you've definitely got to show some kind of initiative, and i think that would involve interest in all sorts of areas. beyond that i agree that certain prestigous awards and titles (IMO gold, duh) are great, but they are never necessary...

Ehh I got rejected...my main field of interest was myology so they probably didn't even have anyone in mind for mentoring in that area...plus I am from NY O_O

Oh well, at least I got my USNCO...if I were to somehow make internationals it would make me twice as glad I didn't get accepted into RSI :)

I'm in FL and I still haven't gotten my letter yet... my friend from the same school got his on the 23rd... I really wanted to call but I think I would face rejection much better on paper where I get to crumple things and make weird noises >_<;

I don't think the male/ female ratio becomes more balanced each year because last year it was about 2/1 respectively.
However, the ratio isn't even noticed that much. The girls are generally less socially ackward than the guys, thus if you factor in the number of guys who find a computer sexier than a person, the ratio balances out ;). jk.

did anybody get in from az?

Don't worry too much at scores, kid who orginally brought the topic a while back. I can't imagine that they have a "point system" for having x, y, or z, (maybe they do, and I'm just naive, who knows...), but I really think if you can make your essays glow with your passion, it can't hurt. It sounds like your scores are great anyways, though, so why worry?

zogoto, a kid from phoenix AZ is going according to the list in the student handbook.

zogoto,
he was in scene and his brother was rsi '04. how cool is that?!
