@ darksigma : I guess you didn’t either…?

If I remember correctly there’s little to no geographic logic to when things arrive, people in Virginia and nearby would get letters after people in California and such fairly often, I think. The post office is screwy like that.

Assuming notification is like last year, if you don’t get an email for a few days after the first ones start showing up, it’s likely you’re either accepted or an alternate, but no guarantee.

Good luck everyone!

Nope I didn’t, but I didn’t want to know either, lol.I guess it comes when it comes, right?

I don’t care much about spelling. Some people can do it and others can’t, but I don’t have the time or the motavation to memerize the spelling of every word there is. My spelling probably accounts for my low writing SAT score, but I don’t realy care about that. The SAT is a prety stupid test when it all comes down to it. After all, where else will you have to write an essay in 25 minutes?

@atomicbaseball:

That’s depressing! So we’re all waiting for somebody else to announce they’ve been rejected, to know we’re safe… (though I guess it’s more likely we’ll all be rejected at once)

If someone is rejected, will they actualy post it to this thread? I hope that they will.

I will, haha. My prospects were 0 from the beginning, anyway :P.

On an unrelated note, has anyone heard of/know how good Boston University’s Research Internship in Sci/Engineering (RISE) program is?

i am very nervous!!!
the emails/mail should be out by next week!!!

Could someone accepted into RSI in a previus year post their stats? I am sure that we would all like something to compare ourselves to. And don’t bother being modest. ;)

Anyone else dealing with parents who don’t realize how ridiculously competitive acceptances are for this program? My parents have this naive notion that I’m guaranteed, when I’m probably only an average applicant

my parents are the exact opposite! they are all like “dont even get your hopes up youre not getting in”
but i guess thats because im in california…and like 7 people applied from my school alone

My parents are so confident that they bet me $50 that I’d get in…So if I don’t, I still walk away with a cool Mr. Grant in my pocket

My dad told me that I might as well have spent the $50 application fee on the lottery. He never has any idea what he is talking about when it comes to my academics, but that doesn’t stop him from ceaslesly annoying me about them.

@ iambenk, THANK YOU!!! My parents were exactly like that when I submitted my app, and a lot of my friends are like that, too. But after looking at previous threads and looking at simply the sheer number of how many apply, my parents have slowly been coming to their senses hahahaa. It’ll be okay whether we make it or not :'D

I think that I figured out how the acceptance/rejection letters/emails being sent out will work from reading a previus year’s thread. If everything works as it did last year, they will send out rejection emails and acceptance letters. Those accepted or alternates will not receive an email. They will send out both the rejection emails and the acceptance letters on the same day, so those who are rejected will know that they are rejected before those who are accepted or alternates will know that they are accepted or waitlisted. You might point out that because those accepted or waitlisted will not receive an email, they will know before they get their letters. This seems to be true in general, but not always. RSI said that they sent out all of the rejection emails on one day, but some reported that they recieved their emails late.

Also, if they keep their word about sending the letters and emails the first week of march, I think that there is a reasonable chance that emails will be sent today. Assuming that they do not send them on Sunday, there are four days left in the first week of March (including today) which indicates a 25% chance of the emails being sent today.

Nah, I doubt they would do anything on the weekend. My money’s on Tuesday.

Did anybody else never get their postcard back? Right now I’m freaking out over whether my app ever made it there.

@ChrxswxN: Haha you’re welcome, I know how you feel. I’m really trying to temper their expectations.
@RSIuser: I also doubt they’ll send anything on the weekend.

I think there’s a ~40% chance of Monday, ~50% chance of Tuesday, and a ~10% of emails Wednesday. My postcard came back two days after I sent it, so I figure I’ll find out one way or another by Friday

Good luck to you all. It’s very exciting when you get that acceptance letter! I think stats are important, but more important are recommendations and essays (passion). There is absolutely a little bit of luck that goes in the process as well, as there are many more who could have made it in instead of you.

If I remember correctly, letters got mailed out on Monday.

:O Okay then my fingers are crossed for Tuesday, I guess. So just to be sure : If we do not get an e-mail on Tuesday or whenever the rest of the general population get them, then we are DEFINITELY an alternate or acceptee? I guess I’m just asking a complicated version of : Will there definitely not be an straggler denials?
