RSI 2016

@mischiefmaker @OneMata did you guys cite sources? Obviously, plagiarism is never acceptable, but it kind of seems like a gray area for this essay. If we simply googled terms to double check that we were using them right-- would a source be necessary? I already submitted mine, but I’m just wondering what you guys did/would do for future, similar essays.

Hey, does anyone know about when RSI will release their decisions? Early February?

@6stars middle of march man @angie414 i had to use background information to explain a bunch about the question i wanted to ask, but i don’t really have room for citations so :confused:

A few pages ago I asked the source-citing question and an alumnus said I should just talk about what I’ve done and what I want see answered, so putting something specific enough to cite would probably be overkill in regards to content.

About to submit my application. Did anyone completely fill up the “Applicant Awards and Accomplishments” section?

@OneMata people don’t have 10000 awards haha

Can you turn in your application before your recommender turns in his rec?

@max1220 yes, you can :slight_smile:

Hello, I know this is a bit at the last minute. I am still tweaking my essays a little bit and need to check up on one of my references to make sure it was submitted. I was wondering if there is a certain time tomorrow that applications will be due (like by midnight for a certain time zone). Thank you.

@bob6500 I’ve already turned mine in, but I remember that, before I submitted, in the top left corner of the application, there was a little timer counting down the number of hours that you have left.

@bob6500 it’s eastern time 11:59 PM on 1/26

I am currently trying to submit my final application, and slideroom simply will not load. I’ve tried accessing slideroom based applications from other universities, and it seems like the web application is down - not just an issue exclusive to the RSI app.

Anybody else having this issue - what do you think I should do?

I had it yesterday for a while, but it seems like its been fine since. You should be able to access it now.

@6stars @mischiefmaker

The information packet says that decisions will be announced late February.

@Runkeeper that’s strange! last year, the acceptances came out on 3/17

Does anyone know how we submit the application fee? I submitted my application, but it never prompted me to pay.

Yeah you go to cee’s website, do make a donation, and put your name and rsi 2016 in the comments

@Emblem Their preferred method of payment is what @Runner99 said because of no transaction cost. If that doesn’t work somehow, the alternate method of payment is via SlideRoom. There are more specific instructions on payment on SlideRoom/ the information packet.

Hi people, this post isn’t really about RSI but since I have already seen a conglomerate of STEM talents here I’ll just post it. I’m wondering if PROMYS and Mathcamp and SUMaC etc. is worth it if I want to improve my Math problem-solving skills. I like thinking about Olympiad problems and I want to be better at solving them and I just like Math in general. I’ve read from the web descriptions that the said camps are mainly about attending lectures in “unusual” fields of Math and doing large amounts of problem sets in Number Theory. I feel I would have time enough for these kinds of lectures in college and I don’t know if I want to spend 6 weeks doing NT. And I certainly can use an extra $3000-$6000 dollars. What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Krissy

^I would also like to hear a response to this as well, as I am really looking forward to applying to those programs. If I had to choose 1 at this point, I think I would go with either USA/Canada Mathcamp or ROSS (I don’t know if my relative interest in Number Theory over the other subjects is worth spending all the time on).

On a separate note, I was wondering if the RSI application requires MAA score reports. I have submitted scores on the AMC 8, AMC 10, and AIME, but I had never received any kind of score reports for the contests. I remember it saying to submit the score reports “if possible,” but I just wanted to clarify on here.
