What exactly do I do with it as it is? I have a few grants and loans listed under my awards, but I don't want to use the loans.

Is there a way for me to pick the awards I want to use?

I've also received a Student Eligibility Notice through mail with a $3073 Fall 2013 and $3073 Spring 2014 award for Rutgers. Since I'm entering Rutgers in the fall, would I only be allowed to use the Fall 2013 award, or will I receive the Spring 2013 Award once I start my spring semester?

*also, every time I try to view/pay my term bill through RUTPP, my student account tells me there's a problem and I don't have any financial data available?

Yes, there should be a link for you to accept or reject each award.

The fall award is for fall. The spring award is for spring.

I don’t know what to tell you about the last question. Call the FA office on Monday.

@rualum: Is it on the planning letter page itself? I can’t seem to find these links - my Estimated Federal Pell Grant is a link, but when I hover over it, it says:

“Your Pell grant is estimated at this time. Funding levels for the Pell grant are established by Congress and have not yet been determined for the 2013-2014 academic year. Once the award amounts are finalized, we will be able to notify you of your actual Pell grant award amount.”

The other one, NJ TUITION AID GRANT, is just pure text.

D: Okay, will do. Thanks for the information so far again!

Maybe it’s because your awards are not yet finalized. My son usually gets an email in his RU box that tells him to follow a link to accept or reject a particular award.

My son has some grants that require him to take the loans in order to receive the grants. We take the loans and then repay them shortly after they are funded - It might cost you a few dollars of interest, but the cost is so little considering the total amount of the grant.

I’ve tried calling the office today four times and got a series of beeps, so I tried doing some research on this.

Either way, is it normal that (as for right now, in May) I can’t accept or really do anything with my planning letter but to view it as a preliminary?

six006: when your financial award package is finalized (probably in early June?), they will send an email to your Rutgers inbox advising you to follow a link to accept or decline the various parts of your package. Do not worry about getting a loan that you do not want: you have to accept it first. They won’t just give it to you.

My son initially ignored his first FA acceptance email and they sent him a second one telling him to please go accept or reject his awards.
