Ruined my chances?

I'm at a CC now and about ready to transfer. I have a 3.3 - 3.4 GPA, and a projected SAT of 1200-1250. My #1 choice is Northeastern. If accepted, I also wouldn't require any sort of financial assistance and would be able to pay all costs in full. (wouldn't require financial assistance to any school I'd get accepted to) Only problem is, I have about 5 Withdrawals on my transcript over the course of about two semesters, due to a lot of unfortunate circumstances dealing with family illness. I'd spoken w/an admissions officer at Depaul University (second or third choice school) and they were understanding and said it wouldn't likely be a problem, considering I have a good academic record otherwise. I want to attend Northeastern very badly, and hope the Withdrawals haven't ruined my chances entirely. Any opinions? Suggestions as to any steps I can take to work around this? (speaking to someone from the school?) I could really use some help with this, thanks!

also, with my current stats, would Boston University be unrealistic for someone such as myself? That was another one I'd wanted to look into. Might I have a chance getting into the College of General Studies?

when you have truly extraordinary circumstances, i think adcoms really do consider that, cut you some slack, etc. Good luck!

thank you, I hope so....does anyone have any opinions on what chances I might have at NEU or BU specifically?

might be a match-reach . depends on recs

Anyone have any opinions as to how I should go about explaining my situation? (about the W's) Who I should talk to/how?

Call an admissions officer as you did with Depaul. Also include with all of your applications a supplementary letter explaining the withdrawal reasons.

I think NSM's advice is good. However, you may need to put in a full semester with no W's to show that you can do this. Otherwise it seems to me that you are a good match with NE but it might be a stretch with BU. It would truly depend on their program and what you can add to it.

I'll have more than 1 semester's worth of work with no W's after those few I'd mentioned....I think I'm definitely applying to BU now as well as NEU, so with the one or two semesters I've had with no more W's, do you think BU might be more of a possibility? Would the 3.3-3.4 gpa give me somewhat of a decent shot at either one? On top of that, I don't have a lot in the way of EC's ( a few activities on the side that I'm fairly devoted to), but I am getting one or two shining letters of recommendation, if that might give me an edge as well...

Also, as a transfer, would NEU and BU both accept just the ACT by itself, or are there other requirements/recommended tests to submit? thanks for all the input! :)
