Does anyone have any information about Student Government at CAL? ANY information about the activities that the CAL Student Government plans would be helpful. Is there a certain hierarchy within the different classes of '10,'11 etc.. that includes President, VP, etc... like in Student Government in high school? Is there a lot of competition and campaigning done if someone is running?

Have you walked through Sproul lately? Its a freakin zoo out there. It seems like those running do so much campaigning that they hardly have time to go to class.

I actually haven’t even visited CAL yet, but I’m 99% sure I’ll be attending next year, So there is a lot of competition? What exactly is Sproul?

@Waiting4College: That’s the thing, for these two weeks many of them who are too focused on campaigning probably don’t go to class. I recently viewed a calendar of a few different candidates and aside from maybe 1-2 hours a day, they scheduled themselves in to being out there on Sproul flyering, chalking, and other stuff.

@Collegestress16: Sproul Plaza is the main hub for where lots of stuff happen regarding student organizations. That’s were clubs set up tables for the day to advertise/publish their groups. It’s also where the student store is located, the Golden Bear Cafe (GBC), Sproul Hall (administration building), & Sather Gate (the iconic entrance of campus). There’s also Lower Sproul which is part of that whole focus of campus as well. To check out where they are, check out this map.

go to sproul, there are like 5 million big azz signs of ppl you dont care about

and some dude actually started walking with me and tried to convince me to vote for him for like 15 min

and LOL you dont even go to cal, hahahah

Good to know, but what does the student council actually do at CAL? Do they set up any programs or organize student activities?

my friend was telling me at a senate meeting, 16 people were on facebook and the other 4 were on gmail.

Don’t worry about this until you get here. If you don’t know all the details by the next, you probably won’t get elected And CC is the wrong place to ask this question.

My personal suggestion is to be on Rally committee, attend all school spirit stuff, join all the major clubs on campus, add everyone you meet on facebook, maybe do greek, be an ASUC intern and participate in Resident Hall gov’t. :)

To be a senator you need 700+ people to vote for you. You gotta be pretty popular. And to be Exec, only 4 the whole school, you’ll need to have mucho experience, join 5000 clubs, and know half the campus personally :)

@collegestress - Like StarryNights points out don’t worry about it until you get there. But if you are curious, checkout: http://www.asuc.org
