I've taken a couple of practice ACT tests so far. I'm taking the Feb. 9 ACT. But there's a problem. I KEEP RUNNING OUT OF TIME on the reading section. Does anyone have any tips on how to finish the reading section quickly AND accurately?

The ACT reading section tests how well on how you can take the ACT reading section, not your reading comprehension skill.

I recommend Princeton Review's ACT book. I'd say come up with a strategy on those passages. You can mark your text so annotate your passages when you read them for better comprehension. That way you can understand the passage faster, therefore giving you more time to answer the questions.

There is no easy way out of this, it takes hours and hours of hard studying to get to the top.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice.

Does anyone else have any other useful advice?

Yeah. The ACT reading section is horrible. The questions are extremely easy, but they require you to remember stupid useless information that you have to go back to the passage and look for. They don't give enough time at all. I got a 27 on the reading section both times I took the test by finishiing only three of the four sections, but I got every question right that I answered. WIth five extra min. Im sure anyone could get a 36. They def. need to make more comprehension questions, less memorization questions and give more time. As it is, all the section measures is ones reading speed. STUPID.

idk, i thought there was enough time to complete it... i say, if you're a "slow" reader, then try to read a little more quickly (as long as you are still able to retain the info); if you think you're reading too fast, then slow down to get the info. but jsmall is right, the questions aren't hard; you just have to finish the section in time (which, imo, isn't that hard to do. now, the math section, on the other hand... :p). oh, and don't be afraid to go back in the passage to look for an answer if you've forgotten something. it might help if you mark things in the passage that look important while you're reading, then you can easily go back & find the info.
