I've already asked UChicago about 'Running start' (dual enrollment program for 11th/12th in Washington) and transfer status it will give me. They said that since community college courses will show up on my high school transcript (???) I will be considered a transfer applicant.

I wanted to know if anyone has gone through this experience and if there's way to not be considered transfer applicant -- maybe take courses both at school and college?

As I mentioned in another thread, my S was discouraged from enrolling in running start, so he did not. He was subsequently admitted. Perhaps arranging simply to take a few CC courses if a corresponding AP course is not available can be worked out with your school. My S took a distance learning course, which did not affect his first year status.

I don't understand what you mean by 8 spots? My S took a total of 6 AP courses (many of the rest were called honors), if I recall correctly. So, if you mean 8 more are available you should be fine.

My school runs on block schedule and I have: 16 semesters of classes to take in 11th/12th grade. I have three APs left, from which two (AP Bio, AP Lit) take two semesters and one (AP Gov) takes one semester (as usual block schedule class). So I have 11 semester spots left for which we don't have any good classes.

Will the HS school provide HS credit for the CC courses such that they appear on your HS transcript? Perhaps if you are not formally a part of running start, but simply take a few courses, you may be able to apply as a first year. Sounds like some input from Libby may be in order here. I believe she is the NW representative, so she should be aware of the issues with RS.
