I sent my scores on the 22nd to rush them just in case collegeboard does take 2 weeks and they arrive after November 1 (some of my schools will throw an application out if it’s not complete by then). Now that I’m looking at rushing them, everyone says not to rush since they come in the mail and sometimes that slows the process. Did I make a mistake by rushing them (will it make me look bad)?
Check colleges carefully because for most you will have no issue since scores can arrive after Nov 1. For the others you have a decent chance of being OK. There are colleges that do not allow rushed scores that are mailed, both because they want all scores sent electronically and because a rushed mailed report contains the scores and little else of what is usually included in a score report sent by College Board.However, for regular delivery, most if not all colleges now have electronic delivery, usually in the form of an online account that the college has with College Board. Beginning about 4 years ago, CB ceased sending mailed rushed scores to all colleges that have electronic delivery. Instead it sends the same report electronically as it does for regular delivery. In fact, ordering rushed scores rather than choosing regular delivery likely only gains about a day in the speed of sending and even that is questionable (i.e., you probably gained little to nothing by sending scores rushed). For all those colleges that have online accounts, sending and delivery occur at the same time when the scores are placed into the colleges account. Thus, whether your scores are delivered by Nov 1 likely depends mainly on how long CB takes to process and complete your order and that is often less than a week.
First off , (they don’t come by mail except for very few small schools that don’t accept electronic reporting) Better safe than sorry and you IMO were right to rush them as CB IS taking 14 days or more right now in getting scores out! When you rush them, they are sent in the exact same way that they are sent regularly, except CB inputs them by 2 days after your request as opposed to 14 days after your request. The college has no idea if you rushed them or not, they just know they got there on time. right now request from OCT 16 have not been sent by CB unless they were rushed! Some schools allow leeway for late scores but others like UMICH do not!
While often it is less than a week for CB to process your scores an send them, right now they are taking the MAX length of time and I was told By CB that my sons Oct 19th requested scores would not be sent out until Nov 2 (most likely ,although there was a chance that they could be sent sooner ) unless i sent them rushed…
