Rushing

Do fraternities at Texas A&M do informal rushing during the summer and pretty much know who's going to get a bid and who isn't before school starts? Or is almost all of it done at the beginning of school?

idk which are you interested in though?

I live in Michigan, so I don’t know which ones are “good.” I’ll be on campus in 2 weeks. Is there anything fraternity-related that I should check out?

i have no idea, since i dont go to A&M but i would search facebook groups or something

I go to A&M, but I didn’t rush.

I do know they have rush weeks at the beginning of both semesters, and anyone can go to the first couple events. That makes it sound like you’re good for trying to get into a frat in the fall, but I can’t say for sure.

Funny I saw this thread; this past weekend some frat guys came to the same party I was at. One of them, who was currently rushing, told me how loud and obnoxious the frat guys were, and how the dress code of wearing boots and whatnot were really dumb.
I don’t remember which frat that was though, so that doesn’t help you out much… haha.

I hear good things about service-oriented frats. I have a friend in a Catholic service sorority who likes it and has met some really cool people from it. Depends on what you’re looking for.

Do all frats wear boots? Why boots? No one does that up here in Michigan.

My nephews are both in fraternities at A&M so I’ll tell you what I know.

No, they don’t all wear boots, but some do, just like A&M students in general.

They have a designated “rush week” the first week of school. There are some events held during the summer, but it’s not like UT where pretty much all the pledge classes are filled before school starts. They also have spring rush events.

Overall, I think rushing at A&M is alot more relaxed than Texas, and the guys I know are all pretty chill.

We just had about 20 A&M students (guys and girls) at our ranch, they were all members of different houses and they were all over the spectrum, from “cowboy/ranch” seeming types to “indie-rock” types. So, I think you don’t have to worry about not owning boots ;)

^Thanks. So it sounds like I won’t be at a significant disadvantage coming from out of state.
