Sorry if this is a repetitive post…
I am looking at Rutgers’ graduate programs for accounting; specifically, governmental accounting. I looked at the class profile for different graduate programs and I was surprised to see that average GPA wasn’t bad, but it was lower than I expected (3.3-3.4) with a pretty good GMAT (590 and above). The Master of Accountancy in Governmental Accounting program does not require applicants to submit GMAT scores, so it comes down to GPA, essays, letters of rec, and possibly job experience.
As of right now, I have a cumulative GPA of 3.34 and I am hoping to get this to a 3.4+ before I graduate next fall. The reason it is not as high as I would like is because I was part-time at my current University over four years ago and I did really poorly. From there, I went to comm college and transferred back; those grades from my part-time semester still are factored into my GPA (otherwise, I would be at a 3.5).
I am doing an internship this summer which I am hoping will better my chances of acceptance. Also, I have many hours logged for community service, as well as holding the philanthropy chair position in my professional fraternity, so I have some campus involvement. I know I can get some good letters of rec and I am pretty good at writing essays, especially when I am passionate about them (and I am REALLY passionate about Rutgers).
So, can anyone give me some insight on how hard it is to get in to Rutgers Business School, whether it is for the gov acct program or otherwise?
EDIT: Since admissions will see my transcripts, they will be able to see my improvement since my part-time semester, so maybe that will better my chances as well?
