Rutgers Business School Reputation

I was just admitted to Rutgers Business School New Brunswick and TCNJ School of Business. Which is better for post-grad opportunities and internships, especially since I aspire to work in NYC after college?

Rutgers-NB is a serious school. And Rutgers-NB business school is well respected.

Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with TCNJ’s School of Business.

@Publisher Thank you :>

I agree…Rutgers is way above TCNJ and especially Business School!

@CS_Parent Thank you so much! :slight_smile:

TCNJ is ranked top #34 top undergrad Business schools in the entire country! Also top #20 accounting in the country!
Son just graduated in 3 1/2 years with over 3.8 gpa . He had many opportunities for internships in finance. Including top banks and consulting firms in NYC. These were the same exact internships many ivy students were in. His summer internship lead to an offer at a top#4 consulting firm nyc. Couldn’t be happier with TCNJ B school. Also many top performing students have gone on to top Grad programs. Much higher regarded and more competitive than Rutgers from everything I have ever seen and heard. For proactive , high performing students the opportunities and the one on one attention at TCNJ is tremendous. Good luck

@stones3 Thank you! :slight_smile:

Please checkout the Poets & Quants ranking. Poets & Quants is a great resource for both undergraduate and graduate business school information.

@6kidsnomore great!

Rutgers Business School has greater national recognition. It depends whether you prefer a large or small university. We have been to both schools and RUTGERS has so much more to offer in terms of culture, clubs, transportation to the city, etc. It is a myth to say that TCNJ is better than RUTGERS.

Literally nobody outside of NJ knows what TCNJ is. A Rutgers degree gets you a lot more across the US. Also, it’s cheaper

if you are comparing academics and not sports, TCNJ wins in all UNDERGRAD categories, just a fact. The academic requirements and the selectivity is also higher at TCNJ . So is the actual course work. At TCNJ you will have smaller class size and more access to one on one interactions with top (as in top in the country professors like Mayo) instructors. The small size also means there is no where to hide and this makes the academics challenging. Barrons ranked it as one of the top 75 most competitive schools in the country. Rutgers offers a different experience. I can say with 100% certainty, the top finance, accounting and banking firms in the nation regularly higher and are well aware of TCNJ graduates. My own son had many offers and lots of opportunity when it came to internships and employment.

@stones3 thank you! I am seriously considering attending TCNJ this coming fall! :slight_smile:

good luck, it’s a good choice if you make the most of it.

futureSK your statement couldn’t be more incorrect. My son, a finance major had his pick of internships and jobs from places like JPMorgan, Deloitte , PWC, Bankof America, KPMG and so on. .

There is a very interesting article by Ed Quest, comparing TCNJ with Rutgers, as well as including data points on other public. It’s a touch outdated, printed about two years ago, but I think it gives some interesting insights into the pros and cons for each. I generally found it to be favorable and quite complimentary toward TCNJ. However, it is infinitely more objective in understanding the limitations and downsides of the school relative to regular fan-posters on this thread.

@BrooklynRye thank you

just to be perfectly clear, I only post from our actual real life experiences not fandom as a t-r-o-l-l would have believe. Funny they only post after me. Anyway, our experience with our S is exactly as described.

@spa2100 - You are quite welcome. I think the point of the article is that, with all of it’s intimacy, uniqueness, and contacts, TCNJ has a much shorter lifespan beyond being a teacher’s college 20 years ago and, therefore, cannot compete with Rutger’s alumni base. So choosing TCNJ requires greater selectivity choosing a major that actually means something from that school, e.g., business/accounting perhaps; engineering most certainly not. Also, there is absolutely no comparison in terms of financial resources. Quest cites a $27M endowment for TCNJ as of a few years ago. The endowments of comparable colleges literally dwarf this amount by as much as 7-13x! This is reflected on the campus which, while pretty is below the standards of comparable schools. TCNJ is closer to an LAC and parents and their kids who spark to the greater intimacy and campus feel should definitely check it out. But there are caveats.
