Hello,
I am an incoming first-year student at Rutgers EMSOP and I just received my financial aid package and much to my surprise, I didn’t receive much aid making it very costly. I was wondering if merit scholarships come out later and separate from aid? Also, wondering what qualifies a person to receive a scholarship and any tips about aid and scholarships? Thank You.
Hey Deondra,
I also just received my package. I am a perspective RBS student and I only received grants, one being the Scarlet Promise Grant. I was also wondering it these are merit scholarships or if those come at a later date. Someone please inform us on the information! Thank you.
Merit came out earlier this week I believe. What qualifies someone to get a scholarship (from Rutgers at least) is being the top 15%, meaning that they have great ECs, decent ACT and GPA and ranking, and they also look at grade trends and diversity (i.e. financial need) a little bit. I would recommend doing well in college so you can qualify for more scholarships from your respective school.
Is there any way we can talk to financial aid about other ways to pay and more aid in the future? $48k a year is a lot of money for college. I fear I won’t be able to go to Rutgers because of the cost
@maggiedonlevie yes you can try appealing to FAFSA but most people do not get money. I know a girl who got an extra couple thousand tho
At 48K I have to assume your oos, Fafsa will not change , it is pretty static in that way, you can ask for more merit but RU is not know to toss a ton of money out after initial aid packages come out. It also depends on you major.
Did you all receive your financial packet by mail or email? We still have not received anything for my son.
@njmom5 check the financial aid portal, it should tell you your gift aid and have it subtracted from your overall cost if you received any aid
What financial aid portal?
Thanks, we still have not received anything yet.
@NYCDadof2 , you are not even seeing a federal loan ?
It has nothing listed at all.
@NYCDadof2 if you don’t see any loan it might be because you didn’t fill out FAFSA but I’m not sure
No, we filled out and submitted the FAFSA. When trying to log onto the Financial Aid Award Letter, it also only gives the option for Engineering School, although son was also admitted to Arts And Sciences. I am thinking they have not finished the award yet? How long after getting a decision did other people have to wait?
