Rutgers Honors College Decisions

Just got an email that I’ve been accepted to the honors college, but still no scholarship info on the page :-? the email said scholarship will be updated “within the next week” though!

@celtic12. My son has a similar situation. Offered Honors Program (not College) for SAS but accepted without it at Pharmacy. Decision to be made. It makes sense to me as he is in a higher percentage for stats versus SAS averages than Pharmacy. I do find the Honors College acceptances odd, yet understandable. On the one hand, it seems like if the Honors College goes across all Colleges, you should either be in or out. On the flip side, Engineering and Pharmacy have higher admission stats. I guess they do not want to have the Honors College over weighted with these schools and majors.

You are correct. Honors college(HC) and Honors programs(HP)are two different things at RU. HC is offered to top 2% in each school, and HC has a different dorm. HP is unique to each school and pharmacy doesn’t have HP. HP students dorm at all different dorms. My son got accepted in 3 schools HP yesterday out of 4 schools. Forth school is Pharmacy and that is his first choice(no HP offered at Pharmacy school). I don’t think HC decesions are out yet, only HP decisions came out yesterday at 2 pm

@Kenchan24 Honors College decisions came out at the same time yesterday.

Trying to get clarification on Honors College versus Honors Program
Click on Honors Portal from email and sign in. Next to college of (business, engineering, arts & science, etc) it would either say Honors College or Honors Program. If you were accepted to multiple colleges, only the colleges that you were accepted into Honors College or Honors Program would be listed on the link?? Also, you could be invited to Honors College in one school and Honors Program in another?

@njmom224 Would you know if I accepted the Honors College invite to the College of Arts and Sciences (for math), would it be possible to transfer to engineering and still stay in the HC?

@Celtic12. Not an expert. Based upon my reading, I would say it is not likely. The official rules seem says the initial invite is specific to the school. It seems that Honors College acceptance for Engineering is harder than SAS. If they are school specific on day one, it does not seem that they would change this if you transferred after a year or two. meaningno. that said, I think it is hard to transfer into Engineering. If your Freshman grades and/or Sophmore grades (depending what year your transfer) are excellent enough that you get accepted to transfer, maybe they would consider them good enough to stay in the Honors College. This is amgood question for Go Rutgers.

@Kenchan24. Do you know where the pharmacy students are usually housed on day one. They do not appear to be eligible for the medical living learning community at B.E.S.T. Can they live in B.E.S.T without being in the community. Is it possible they end up somewhere that is not Busch? The honors program for SAS has one dorm on each campus. The Busch dorm is McCormick suites.

@Njmom224 I think B.E.S.T. is by invite only. Don’t know dorm options yet. RU acceptance was Dec 15th but waiting on scholarship email to explore more.

I called them yesterday. Scholarship letters going out end of this week.

I was invited to Honors College through SAS and SEBS. Does anybody know how, after the first year, you are differentiated from Honors Program, as at that point you dorm with them. Also, are there additional perks for HC over HP? I am thinking I may just want to do Honors Program at SEBS. I plan on majoring in Biology with a concentration in genetic engineering.

@Celtic12 @Njmom224
This is what is currently on the Honors College FAQ page (https://honorscollege.rutgers.edu/information/frequently-asked-questions)

"What will happen to my Honors College membership and scholarships if I change schools after I’m enrolled at Rutgers?

A student’s Honors College membership continues as long as he or she meets the minimum academic requirements and remains a student in good standing with the Honors College. That remains the case if the student transfers to a different school at Rutgers-New Brunswick. However, students who seek to change schools after enrollment cannot be guaranteed continued receipt of their scholarship. Each student’s petition will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by both the dean of the school to which the student wants to transfer, as well as by the deans of the Honors College."

So it seems that you may be able to switch to Engineering after enrollment into Honors College SAS but I’m not sure how long you would have to wait. If it’s based on meeting “the minimum academic requirements,” I would guess that it would be a year after you’ve been in SAS.

I have the same problem. Accepted to HC SAS but my first choice of major is Mechanical Engineering. I thought I had pretty good chances of getting into HC for the School of Engineering but I guess I didn’t. So if I do decide to go to Rutgers, I may want to switch schools and stay in HC if possible.

Why have I not received an email yet? I logged into my account through my friends portal and it told me I got Honors College for the business school. Should I call them?

@pk1jk1 How can you login through your friend’s portal?

@Fishnlines29 with my own account. I just used the website from the his email.

@chowkm Thank for this information!

My son is admitted to SAS Honors Program. Will he get a separate invite for Honors College? From what I understand, Honors college is made up of honors program students from each college but, I did not follow the criteria for selection.

Does anyone know the criteria for selection to SAS Honors program and Honors College?

@CantbelieveNJ. They are two different programs. If he is in honors program for a college, he will not be in Honors College. He could be invited to different things for different Schools, but not for the same school. All invites are in the portal already. Per the website, you can petition for acceptance to the Honors Program, but the Honors College is 100% by invite.

Does anyone know how many honors college invitations they sent last week? I searched but didn’t get any statistics.

@Celtic12 I got an invitation to the Honors College for SoE just yesterday. Maybe they were sent our later or some students who were accepted committed to another school so they went to a deferred list? Not sure but look out for another Honors College invitation. Good luck!
