@chowkm my son applied to SoE but only got accepted to Rutgers, not the honors college. Could you please post your stats? Did you have to do anything to apply for honors college or does it get offered automatically upon applying to the regular college?
Received Financial aid package today $18,500 which is great. Since in-state tuition is less than that, can a student apply the left over money toward room and board?
What time did you get your email? It still says I’m not in the data base @Celtic12
Around 1:00 pm the email came saying to check the portal
@reformedman I didn’t have to apply to honors college (HC) separately, it was an automatic invitation but I believe in order to be considered for any HC one would have to apply by December 1st.
Stats-wise I don’t like to brag but I believe I was a pretty strong candidate (which is why I was worried when I didn’t receive an invite to SoE HC when I got one for SAS). But here is a summary:
single-sitting ACT: 32 (E 35, M 34, R 29, S 30)
irrelevant but my superscored ACT is a 33
SAT Math II: 780
GPA (weighted): 100 (I don’t believe my school even sends unweighted but its like a 96 or 97 I think)
My school doesn’t have class ranking because there’s only 26 of us. I’m a part of a specialize program that focuses in math, science, and engineering and it’s pretty selective (only 26 were accepted out of the county and it’s supposedly ranked #2 in the state but I think it’s mostly bs)
relevant coursework:
APs: Lang & Comp, Chem, APUSH, Calc BC, Physics C, Lit & Comp
not an AP but AP caliber: Calc 3
(AP tests: Lang-5; Chem-4; APUSH-4; Calc BC-5, AB subscore- 5)
All other classes I’ve taken were honors level unless it was like an art class or P.E.
I’m not sure if Rutgers would look at this info either but I took a lot of engineering classes.
extracurriculars:
-senior class VP
-started science Olympiad club in sophomore year, also captain of science Olympiad team (have won medals which I listed as an award)
-honor societies: National, English, Math, Science, Spanish, Social Studies
-swim team for 4 years
-100-hr internship with an architecture firm (the internship is a graduation req for my program)
-volunteer at a hospital for the past 2 summers; completed 150+ hrs
@reformedman Did you get an HC invite for engineering as well as SAS? i did not get an invite for engineering but I did for SAS and business. I agree your stats are good and it would be suprising if you did not to get an HC invite for SOE too. Would you mind sharing how much they gave you in scholarship? Are all the HC scholarships the same? I noticed my scholarship for Engineering was half of the HC scholarship.
@celtic12 my son was accepted to all Rutgers’ schools and the financial award was a shocker. It said $5,500. Upon closer inspection it said that this would come from federal student loans in fine print. In other words, we got nothing!
I called to see if admissions were still considering people for Honors College and they said that it was only available for people who registered in December. Well, who does regular-decisions in December? I’m disappointed that Rutgers makes things sufficiently difficult for people; instead of making regular decision take place on the date that 99% of other schools do it.
So definitely Rutgers is now off our list, good riddance. Good luck to everyone regardless, as for us we will select somewhere else.
December 1st is a very common regular decision deadline. I don’t really see the issue with it.
However, for financial aid, honors, and scholarships, Rutgers is being very weird.
@ByteZz as far as I’ve seen December 1st is mainly Early Decision not regular decision. Jan 1st is generally regular decision.
Look at how small the December Regular decision application list is on [url=<a href=“http://www.collegesimply.com/guides/application-deadlines/?view=all%5Dthis”>http://www.collegesimply.com/guides/application-deadlines/?view=all]this link
Does anyone know, if honors college notifications sent in one shot or in batches(e.g. rolling)? Also, all colleges (SAS/Engg)/…) sends the notifications same time or different intervals? Thanks
@Andy786. All at once for Honors College.
@njmom224, Thanks for the info. I got letter of acceptance in SAS honors program. Do you know when the notification for Engineering Hons program will be sent? Is it rolling or one shot notifications (HP)?
@andy786. Per get Rutgers I think they said they are all sent out. Someone here posted they received Engineering within the last week.
Here is what they posted.
All of the students who did qualify for an honors invitation were notified with an email last week. Unfortunately if you didn’t get an email then it’s likely you were not among those students selected for an honors opportunity…Engineering does not have a formal admissions by application process like the School of Arts and Sciences does. You can contact the School of Engineering Honors Academy by email at honors@soe.rutgers.edu with any questions.
