Can anyone share their audition experience for the Rutgers BFA?

Very straightforward for me. I went in and auditioned for a man and a woman, who were both kind but not overly warm. I performed my two monologues and talked to them for a couple of minutes when they asked if I had any questions for them about their program. Took probably a total of six minutes – not overly stressful. Sorry there’s not more detail, but that’s really all that happened.

I had the same experience at Unifieds (I’m assuming, Actor, that you auditioned at Unifieds as well maybe?). I did have a couple of questions about the program, so I got an extra 5 or 7 minutes with them. Everyone who I saw audition had a quick in-and-out experience. If you’re really into going to MGSA, I’d think of questions to ask them so you can have the chance of having a conversation with them and showing them how passionate you are about the program.

i auditioned for rutgers at unifieds in chicago. there was a man and a woman seated at a table. i came in, handed them an updated copy of my headshot and resume, and they were very friendly. they then asked me to perform my pieces. i did a shakespeare and a contemporary comedic, and they laughed during the second one. then they invited me to come sit down for a short interview. they asked me if i was a performing arts school student (i am not) and then asked about my high school drama program, and what shows I had been involved in. i asked them a couple of questions about their movement classes and they were very helpful and straightforward about their program. overall, it was a very positive experience with a friendly audition board can’t wait to hear back.

Would anyone who auditioned for Mason Gross BFA acting this January (2015) be willing to share their experience?
I’m curious if others had the same experience as my daughter. For example, were you asked to sing your 16 bars? Did they ask you to re-do your monologues so they could videotape you? Did you audition in NYC or New Brunswick? Would love to hear some feedback about other student’s feelings about their audition. Of course it’s just a waiting game now!
Hi,
My daughter just auditioned at NY unifieds. She knew the director from the Rutgers pre-college program, and he remembered her and said it was nice to see her again. She did her 2 monologues only, and was not asked to sing. They talked for awhile. She talked about her (great) experiences at Rutgers precollege, and what she has done since then. They talked about her acting coach, whom the director knows personally. They asked where else she was applying, and said they thought they were a good fit for what she was looking for.
She thought it was a good audition and felt positively about it. But who knows anything until the results are in. Does anyone know when and how they notify about callbacks? She is obviously hoping for a callback!
Last year they notified by email mid February. Good luck
Hi Yardley Sister! My daughter was at RSAC this summer. Did your daughter also go summer 2014? If so our kids probably know one another. (And both had similar experience in their audition) they said we’ll hear about callbacks midFebruary.
Thanks Bromquest. Are you a parent or student? Where did you or your S or D end up going?
My S is a freshman at Rutgers MG and totally loves it. I’m happy to answer any questions. The call back email actually came 2/14 and the weekend was first weekend in March.
Thanks Bromquest! I wonder if we met your daughter when we were at MG last weekend. They had freshman helping out at the audition. Great group of kids! I really enjoyed talking to them.
Oh, oops… Your son!!!
Here’s a link to the Rutgers Mason Gross Actor showcase. I didn’t get a chance to see the showcase, but was lucky enough to see many of these students in a couple performances this year - they are SUPER talented and impressive! My S is just a Freshman and so can’t be in shows, but I can’t WAIT until next year! (He saw a movement piece at Rutgers callback weekend last year and said all the students had six-pack abs, and petite girls were lifting big guys!?!! I think that sold him on MG!) It’s an amazing program and he is incredibly challenged, but loving it!
