I was accepted to the Rutgers business school in New Brunswick, in state. However, I don’t really like Rutgers and I want to live in Southern California after I graduate. Assuming I get in, would San Diego State be worth an extra $9,000 to attend? I feel like it would be much easier to find a job where I want to be if I attend SDSU. My family can afford it, but I will have to pay it off so, so I just want to know if it’s worth it.
San Diego State would so be worth it over Rutgers, although you would have to factor in airfare.
From an academic and career perspective Rutgers is by far the better choice. San Diego State has the advantage of better weather but not academics. Your thinking about Southern California career options post graducation may have merit if you were comparing Rutgers to UCSD. But not to San Diego State.
Is it $9,000 per year or $9,000 total? There’s a big difference there in your future debt load.
Rutgers business school is highly regarded, and not easy to get into. SDSU is not a UC level campus. The anti NJ sentiments do not outweigh trading down to a lesser institution for more money. UCSD would be a better comparison. Business schools are a dime a dozen, and it is in a person’s best career interests to go to the best one they get into.
Rutgers isn’t superior to SDSU. They are more or less equal. Rutgers doesn’t touch UCSD.
OP - in your post history, you mentioned you were accepted to ASU. What did you decide about that? Why don’t you google rankings for business schools and see for yourself where these stack up in terms of recruitment etc.? It’s really fashionable in NJ to bash Rutgers (I am a NJ resident). But a 2.9 GPA will not get you many acceptances to good business programs elsewhere. ASU takes a lot of people in, but has a high attrition rate. I am a proud alum of ASU, and got a good education there. It’s one of those “easy to get in - hard to get out” universities.
You are putting the cart before the horse since you have not been accepted to SDSU and with a GPA of 2.9, it is highly unlikely. SDSU has an excellent business school, but for affordability I believe Rutgers would be your best bet.
Repost if you do get in to SDSU. This process is already difficult without worrying about hypothetical situations.
