Hey, I'm a New Jersey resident and concerning these two colleges. Both are the New Jersey public schools and people say very different things about them. I'm interested in Business (Accounting) Major. Which school would be better in general and in business field?

Rutgers? But you don't say which college at Rutgers University. If it's Rutgers College than I'd say it's a toss up. If it's any other Rutgers U. school, than I'd say TCNJ. Strongly.

I'm from Jersey too. Allot of people say they go to "Rutgers", but they're really talking about the university umbrella. There is a wide differnce between the four distinct colleges that are under the Rutgers U. umbrella. For admittance rigor, only Rutgers College competes with TCNJ.

Rutgers College is one of the colleges withing Rutgers University in New Brunswick. It is the most selective and 'prestigious', if that is important to you. I don't know anything about the Business major at either Rutgers or TCNJ.

Douglass, Livingston and Cook Colleges are also at the New Brunswick campus.

Rutgers and TCNJ are very different schools, it depends what you want.
Rutgers is a very large research university, degrees up to PHD, large classes, small city campus.
TCNJ is medium sized, with a suburban campus, degrees up to masters, small classes. More like a public liberal arts college.

Hopefully, someone else can comment on the Business degree at the two schools.

I have not been to either college, but I do live in NJ and hear about both a LOT! Rutgers is HUGE. Kids often have to take shuttle busses from class to class... it is for someone that functions very well in a chaotic environment.

Everything I hear about TCNJ is excellent. I think the SATs, etc. to get in are higher than those for Rutgers. My cousin's brother in law's son just graduated from there and the family says the campus is BEAUTIFUL (Rutgers is DEFINITELY NOT BEAUTIFUL!)

I have been to both campuses and what lelalellen says is correct.

Rutgers is spread out on different campuses within New Brunswick and kids do indeed take (slow and inconvenient) shuttle buses between classes and to the dorms. While Rugters does have some lovely old, stately brick buildings and green lawns, the overall effect of the campus is not pretty.

TCNJ's campus is gorgeous, not at all what you might expect from a medium sized public college in NJ. Well maintained older buildings mixed with MANY new ones that blend nicely. The buildings are surrounded by manicured lawns, flower beds, small lakes, etc. It does resemble a small college in New England somewhere.
The campus is located in suburban Ewing, NJ which is pretty much convenience stores and strip malls. BUT close proximity and easy access to Philly, and NYC by train for those inclined.
Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers was one of the schools our son was admitted to last year, but he chose TCNJ instead.
He is very happy with his choice.
The physical campus was not the deciding factor, of course. But it was one 'plus' in TCNJ's favor when we compared the two.
The schools differ in so many ways that a prospective student should research and visit to see which meets their needs.

Rutgers-NB is now essentially one college with different dorms. You take classes with all the colleges. They are doing away with the different college designations.

wow, this is so ironic...
i just visited TCNJ today and i absolutely loved it! there were many students already on campus so i was able to get the whole "college feel" at TCNJ..i talked to some students and everyone was really nice, social, and supportive..

im like you, okfelix, (looked at both schools and also live in Jersey) and i loved TCNJ much more than Rutgers
