hey, i was just wondering what your thoughts were about rutgers pharmacy in comparison to other pharmacy programs in the region

so far, i have been accepted to and given the following scholarship offers, rutgers pharmacy ($5K a year, 4 years), suny buffalo ($3K a year, 4 years), and albany college of pharmacy (unsure if anyone here has heard of it, they don't even have their own board here on CC) ($5K a year, 6 years!). also, i am still waiting from a decision from st johns university pharmacy, which i am pretty certain i will get into, it's just a matter of how much of a scholarship i do or do not get.

theyre all wonderful and reputable programs, but taking into consideration tuition, campus life, social life, dorms, facilities, the cities/towns the colleges are in, community, university resources, other perks, etc, which of these schools stands out above the rest? or if that's too difficult, what aspects of each stand out in general?

i'm from nyc, and in fact, st johns is a 15 minute bus ride from me. also, keep in mind that since im a NY resident, rutgers comes at a out-of-state tuition, which sucks

thank you so much! the decision-making is killing me!

i dont want to sabotage the thread, but when you give the advice for sl88 for which is the better program, can you add the decision for rutgers in state for me too? just as a small aside..thanks

Rutgers Pharmacy is supposed to be the best around. Sorry I don't know much about the status of other schools, but I went to Rutgers Pharmacy for three years about 20 years ago (then I switched to Rutgers College). At that time and now still, the program there was supposed to be tops in the NE.

I would think most pharmacy schools are similar, but if you wanted to work in the pharmaceutical industry, Rutgers' location is advantageous because many pharmaceutical corporations are based in NJ.

Hi...Are you transfer student? May I know your status (such as GPA, PCAT test...) if that's ok with you. I'm applying to Rutgers pharmacy as transfer student and the school still need final Highschool transcript from me so I'm just wondering when did you apply and when did you got accepted and you transfer to 1st professional year of 4 year total right?....Thank you very much.

do you think its among the top pharm schools? as opposed to UNC or USC or umich?
now, im talking about all factors included: location, price, quality, rep, ect.

Well I don't think it's the best. But there is no way Rutgers can compare with UNC or USC or UMich. I think that's like the top tier pharmacy schools, but it's right below them. Rutgers doesn't have the resources of those three. And location wise, you can't beat USC if you like urban or UMich if you like suburban. Pricewise though, it blows the competition. You are getting an excellent pharmacy degree at Rutgers, for far cheaper than the other schools- this factor cannot be denied. I think Rutgers is the best bang for your buck by far. And consider that at UMich very, very, few are selected for the early admission to their pharmacy school (garunteed in), and at UNC they don't even have early admissions. If you know you want to do Pharmacy, then Rutger's direct entry program is a great oppurtunity

It really depends what you want to do. Honestly, rankings for pharmacy schools don't really matter right now because there is such a shortage of pharmacists that as long as you maintain above a 3.0 GPA and get your PharmD there's no difference in opportunities.

I can say for sure that if you wanted to go into the pharmaceutical industry, Rutgers's location makes it one of the TOP picks for that field. It is located in the heart of the pharmaceutical industry.
