I have a question for the great minds here at CC...

I am currently in my final semester at Union County College in Cranford NJ and will be earning my AA in December. I have applied to Rutgers NB SAS and am very nervous about being rejected. More and more I read on these boards and worse and worse I begin to feel, maybe someone can let me know what they think my chances may be.

I have a 3.1 GPA and will have 65 credits at the end of my time at UCC. I am and NJ resident and reside in Essex county.

Please let me know what other information would be helpful to provide me with information.

I think it depends somewhat on which campus you apply to. Probably the most important factor is whether or not you've taken all of the prerequisites they recommend on their website, and whether or not you've managed to get fairly consistent grades (i.e. an A and and F isn't the same as two C's). The fact that you've completed two years college will definitely be a plus. I wouldn't worry too much, just make sure you turn everything in on time and call in to make sure they've received everything. Good luck!

The New B school for internal transfer from NEW/CAM to the NB campus requires a 3.50 GPA. However, I am not sure about external transfers. Requirements are somewhat stringent, but not very tough (i.e. Sloan, Kellogg, HBS, etc)

My school had a small college fair today and I spoke with the Rutgers rep (he wasnt very informative, I had to fight answers out of him!) but he did inform me that RU NB was looking for a min GPA of 2.8 for Criminal Justice does this show any glimmer of hope for me?

Are you applying for spring or fall 2009? it may be beneficial if you are applying to spring because less people typically apply to spring. Since you are from New Jersey and attended a New Jersey community college that should help, there is a lot of info on their transfer website about the jersey transfer program. A 3.1 isn't terrible for Rutgers but is also not amazing probably somwhere around average? at this point your personal statement is where you can score the most points so work hard on that.

Thanks for the reply...yes I did apply for spring 09 and my personal statement was nothing award winning but I feel I wrote a good essay that showed who I am as a person

On the topic of the personal statement i felt the same way about mine when i submitted it last december for freshman admissions w/ something around a 3.4 and i got in. i ultimately didn't go but it looks like i may be joining you as a transfer (fall 09 application of course)

thats great! its all pretty much a waiting game from here on out for me, I am also applying to some other schools so i am just going to keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best

Rutgers is actually quite lenient when it comes to GPA's. I know a few students from my high school who had 2.5-3.0 GPA's and got in even though they did not participate in anything outside of school. I would say you do have a chance of getting in.
