Rutgers University Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

Is this your first? If my kids want to go OOS, they need to have stats high enough to get top scholarships that put the cost close to Rutgers. Even after getting scholarships as high as $15,000 - $22,000 schools like UMASS, Temple, UCONN, and UD are all higher. My daughter is hoping for a couple thousand from RU, my oldest went there with no merit. FA thinks most with a NJ income are wealthy, unfortunately, COL doesn’t get taken into consideration.

Good for you. Financials definitely should be considered seriously in college selection. I actually didn’t think that’s the case until I have learned more about the process.

It’s my only kid, so surely I have no experience at all. Everything is a learning for me and unfortunately, I won’t have the chance to apply the learning in the future
Indeed, OOS schools are likely 15k to 20k higher than Rutgers, but there could be better options considering the quality of education. Actually, Rutgers is not cheap for in-state students anyway.

The link someone posted above works. Mine got the Scarlet Promise Grant for a whopping $4500. Making Rutgers one of the most expensive and we are in state!!!

I’m in the same boat but my scholarship is $3500! Are you going to bother appealing or is Rutgers just ruled out? I’m still deciding between Fordham, UF, and Richmond, which are much more affordable for me.

Not even gonna bother. It was low on my dd list anyway. Just pathetic that it is cheaper to go out of state!

NJ public universities are expensive. They all want to attract OOS students, actually Binghamton is a little cheaper for my daughter than Rutgers, presidential scholarship. Most others are coming out at least $5000 more. I remember being surprised at the lack of merit and FA with my first (theses are 4 and 5).

They emailed me with a link to the financial aid portal

My D got a link but it’s just loans. We did not expect merit. With her grades and scores and efc it costs about the same as most other options. Just a couple of cheaper ones in state where she got merit.

I’ll have 3 kids in college next yr and my husband is unemployed and got nothing but the loans. Ridiculous

Did anyone in NJ receive financial aid? I received a scholarship but no aid even though my EFC is far below the sticker price.

We will have 3 too, just loans, so far Pitt has offered some FA OOS. The loans are considered aid on top of the EFC.

I got honors college, but I did not receive a 10k scholarship. I thought that 10k was the minimum, guaranteed amount for the honors college. Should I call them about this and ask?

Anyone who was accepted in state are you willing to share stats? I still haven’t heard back and am trying to see my chances

I thought it was $500 - $2000.

UWGPA 3.9 (WGPA 4.2 - one B freshman year), 33ACT, all honors + 7 AP’s, 4 year varsity athlete/captain, AP scholar with honors, 3 honor societies, in state, no honors or merit.

UWGPA 3.6 (WGPA 3.9), 30 ACT, all honors + 4 AP’s, 4 year varsity athletic/captain, 3 honor societies, in state, no honors or merit (as expected).

GPA 3.6, no honors because they weren’t offered at my school, good extracurriculars, accepted into PSU main campus, Indiana, and Nebraska. I assumed I would get in because I am in state and was accepted into similar schools.

TO? My daughter’s friends with a sillier GPA didn’t get in without test scores. I don’t think being in state helps, Rutgers offers much higher merit to OOS students to attract them (most public’s do).

I also applied with no test scores. Still keeping my hopes up because RU is my top choice.

In-state. Applied RD on Dec. 1 to SAS and SOE and was accepted to both in mid-Dec. Unweighted GPA: 3.6, weighted 5.6. 1420 SAT.
