Yes
stats if i may ask
1520 SAT. High weighted GPA. Lots of good ECs
My sonâs portal doesnât even show his application is under review, only that his application was submitted. We are in-state and submitted for Early Action. Should we be concerned?
Ours did not show Under Review. Directly went from submitted to Decision Made
Is it for Fall or Summer
Thank you! Eased my mind considerably.
We applied Fall
One of my friendâs s23 received the acceptance this morning at Rutgers Camden for business. How is it compare to other campuses?
Not as selective as New Brunswick, Iâve never seen the campus but Newark is pretty urban (my husband was an adjunct forever, itâs local for us). Lots of kids here commute to Newark, Iâm assuming Camden is similar for southern NJ locals.
I am local to the area. My son applied to Camden as a backup to NB. In terms of reputation in his opinion it is behind NB, but not too much, and pretty much on par with Newark. The campus and tourist to the south isnât bad, making it popular choice for local commuter students but there are residences. In fact, my son is considering commuting there despite acceptances to Penn State, Pitt, NJIT, Temple, Drexel, USF, Tampa and more, because in-state tuition is only $14k, and without the need to pay for dorms it would be half to a quarter or more of the cost to attend the other schools on-campus.
With that said, if you venture across the highway into North Camden, down south or to the southeast outside of the tourist and college area (there are other campuses here too) you get into some sketch neighborhoods fast. In general, I have spent a good amount of time with wife in kids in the yellow highlighted campus/tourist waterfront areas below. We always drove in for things like the aquarium, Phillyâs minor league River Sharks when it was there, 4th/New Yearâs Fireworks, concerts and shows and always felt safe within these areas. However, I commuted to Center City Philly, of which there is an amazing view of from the Camden Waterfront, and always found local transit stops in Camden to be sketchy. You see some of the worst areas of Camden from the train and never took my family to get off of these local stops, although we occasionally take the train through these stops and into Philly. Hope that helps.
My D20 is a student at Rutgers Camden. The campus is small. The campus and immediate surrounding areas are heavily patrolled but beyond that, it isnât very safe. But itâs convenient to get to Philly. Kids seem to like it. Itâs very diverse.
My D is getting a little bored with the campus at this point and doesnât like that she has to take a train to even go to a park to spend time outside. Other kids might not mind this, but itâs becoming hard for her. She comes home on weekends to go out into the woods or on hikes with friends.
I know several people who absolutely excelled at Rutgers Camden. My cardiologist went there. I have a relative that graduated from there and on went to law school, and another kid went on to Wharton business school for an MBA. I know a kid who just won an international award. And the thing about all of them is that they were all kind of above average local kids that worked hard and went on to tremendous opportunities. I think Rutgers Camden is what you make it. It will open doors and not hold you back at all.
Interesting on the park, there are at least 4 within walking distance that I can recall including one on campus and 3 on the waterfront (Wiggins, Cooperâs point, and Ulysses Wiggins) along with sporadic smaller ones. Then as you mentioned, you can hop on the train to access parks in Philly or oneâs in NJ like Cooper River or several more that are in walking distance of most PATCOs., etc but as I stated the train stations in the area are sketch and donât blame her not liking them because I donât either. Also, some nice larger parks along Admiral Wilson which you could technically walk to, but I personally wouldnât because the areas you would need to walk through.
It would be nice if they patrolled / cleaned up the area around the City Hall station and made a no-loitering zone for a couple blocks.
Yes, she has taken trains to go to parks in Collingswood, etc.
She walks around campus but says she gets tired of looking at the same trees. She likes more natural areas.
Camden has a lot to offer and it would be nice if it could be cleaned up a little and made safer for the residents and kids.
Its insane that most schools delivered their decision and NB is really delaying it. Because NB did not deliver their decision in December , many students applied to additional schools which costed around $500 minimum for each student. Shame on them. Hope state will stop supporting them with tax payer dollars
There are plenty of state schools that havenât released EA decisions yet, or only released recently.
To be fair, Rutgers never promised decisions by December
If they became a private school, cost of attendance would jump significantly, and theyâd likely have to shrink to make ends meet - making acceptance a lot more competitive.
I do understand the frustration - but hang in there. Only a week more.
I know. Why do they need to call themselves as rolling admissions school. What benefit they are getting by sending acceptances to intl students (full fee). They have been releasing results in November for the past few years. What changed now? Why they are not saying anything about it. I have got dozen emails to apply for Newark to get admission decisions almost immediately. Either they are super lazy or broken down with number of applications. Say something atleast
I think they guarantee EA by 2/15. It appears a lot of schools are still handing out decisions based on what Iâve read here.
By 1/31.
Oops, the February date is Camden and Newark.
