Can anyone give pros and cons of each over the other? Is TCNJ even known outside of jersey?

They are pretty much complete opposites…it really depends on what kind of location you feel more comfortable (city vs suburbs) and what you plan on studying! Have you visited the schools?

TCNJ is great for teaching and liberal learning. Certain sciences like chemistry and biology are also very good. The basic engineering disciplines are well taken care of (ie: mechanical and electrical), but some of the other disciplines are more or less modifications of mechanical or electrical.

Parties at TCNJ are also pretty nice (just putting it out there). The train station is also only a bus ride away, but there isn’t much to do besides that. They have a bus that runs every tuesday, friday, and saturday that’ll take you to the movies and the mall, but you normally want to go in a big group.

I’m actually at TCNJ, but I’m transferring to Rutgers for biomedical engineering. TCNJ’s reputation is spreading out of state, but for the most part it is still a suitcase school. A lot of people leave on weekends to go home, but that just means more fun for the rest of us at parties. (TCNJ’s ratio is also 3 girls: 2 guys…that’s always a plus).

I’ve visited Rutgers a few times to visit friends, but I can’t say much about academics other than the fact that it has a better engineering program.

A friend of mine ED’d to tcnj, and i’m going to rutgers…tcnj’s a bit more of a liberal arts school, rutgers has better programs in certain things (pharm, library sciences, english) but stat for stat they’re fairly even.

rutgers is obviously much MUCH bigger, and has the athletics that tcnj doesn’t - also, rutgers is a HUGE party school. take it from someone who’s up there all the time and is going there - if you’re a partier, this is a no brainer.
