I've narrowed down my college choices down to Villanova and Rutgers. I'm visiting both next week. Both will also cost the same. I plan on majoring in mechanical/aerospace engineering.

Villanova is much smaller and is ranked #10 in engineering (where doctorate is not offered.)
But at the same time I'd imagine Rutgers would have better research opportunities since it is a much larger school.

Overall which would you say has a better engineering program? Are there any other positives/negatives about attending either?

I can’t speak to Villanova, but my son had the same major as you, and he had the opportunity to do NASA funded research at Rutgers.

if cost is same, then it comes down to what you want in a college. i would say the quality of education is about the same; if it came down to a villanova graduate versus a rutgers graduate, it would come down to who had better research/ internship opportunities. however rutgers does not have co op opportunities, if villanova does have that, then i would go there. also when ur at the doctorate level, ur not going to stay at the same school, u going to try to apply to higher level school, so thats not an important con. i go to rutgers and its a BIG school, u have to be independent and know what you want, all the opportunities are here, you just need to find them. its hard to stand out to your professors here, but theres alot of school pride, the football games are great, and everyone is happy to be here. if u think u might need more attention from professors and need to know everyone in your lecture hall, then villanova might be the school for you.
