S21 - ACT improved so now reworking PolSci/IR/Govt list of schools

“So does he live in the dorms? Will he have other internships besides DC one? How is the career counseling center support at UCLA?”

He’s been in dorms for 2 years. Wanted more room than a triple so has just signed up for an apartment next year. He’d already done local internships for our county government after junior and senior year of high school, then some work for a non-profit last summer. So hopefully he will know very soon what he’ll do this summer in DC (likely a think tank or law firm).

And then he can determine what makes most sense in the summer after junior year as he focuses on what he wants to do next, either law school or grad school (probably in public policy) are the likely choices. His course (public affairs) also includes a year long internship during senior year.

UCLA students are very self motivated, so I don’t think he’s spent any time with a career counselor, he’s just sorted it out himself. That doesn’t appear to be a problem, he got his paid summer internship as a junior in high school completely on his own, by writing to our county supervisor and asking for a job.
